Waldo Weatherbee is a recurring character on The CW's Riverdale. He is portrayed by Peter Bryant.
He is the former principal of Riverdale High School.
Early Life
Nothing is known of Weatherbee's early life. However, he did become the principal of Riverdale High School some time prior to the start of the series.
Throughout Riverdale
Season 1
Suspecting Archie Andrews Mr. Weatherbee giving an announcement Principal Weatherbee began the school day by announcing their plans to continue moving forward with the pep-rally, despite recent events. As Sheriff Keller spoke on the status of Jason Blossom's death, Weatherbee briefly noticed Archie Andrews lurking outside his office. Later that day, he approached Archie, requesting that they speak for a moment. He first acknowledged Archie's satisfactory position within the school, such as Varsity football and AP music tutorials. He quickly moved on to the real reason he requested Archie's presence, the look they shared earlier that day, he wondered why Archie wouldn't meet his eyes, suggesting that he may be hiding something about Jason. That night, during thePep Rally, he hands the mic over to Mayor McCoy. The next day, he and Sheriff Keller arrest Cheryl Blossom during class due to something that was revealed during Jason's autopsy. [1]  Sheriff Keller and Weatherbee interrogated Archie Principal Weatherbee and Sheriff Keller escorted Cheryl to his office for question in the murder of her own brother, Jason Blossom. Cheryl claimed that she didn't kill Jason, however, she admitted to lying about what took place on the 4th of July. The truth is that they went out there to fake Jason's death. They made it to the other side of Sweetwater River, in Greendale, and they parted ways, but she recalled hearing a gunshot just before. The following day, Archie came forth, admitting that he was at the river on the 4th of July, and that he heard a gunshot. Weatherbee watched quietly as Sheriff Keller did the interrogating. The only thing useful they learned from Archie was that Cheryl's claim of gunfire is true. [2] Jughead Jones was taken into custody upon the discovery made by Sheriff Keller, which were that his fingerprints were on file for a previous incident. After entering The Blue and Gold in search for Jughead, Weatherbee and Keller found his murder board, which only made matters worse. [3] Homecoming and Jubilee Weatherbee denying Betty's request Principal Weatherbee denied Betty Cooper's request to delegate a percentage of her decorating duties for the Homecoming to Ethel Muggs. She made a commitment, one that she had to honor, especially when considering that this Homecoming was also reunion weekend, in which former graduates would return to Riverdale High School to revisit their youth and make up for lost time. The night of the dance, Mr. Weatherbee and Mayor McCoy requested Betty's assistance throughout the evening, however, she was fairly unavailable, leaving the task of walking Mayor McCoy up to the stage on him.[4] Following an altercation between Jughead Jones and Cheryl Blossom in the school's cafeteria, Mr. Weatherbee requested Jughead's presence in his office, where he interrogated him over the murder of Jason Blossom, before letting him go. Later that night, he called Fred Andrews, and suggested that Jughead finish the rest of the semester from home as he was concerned with Jughead's safety after the incident with Cheryl. The other students could react in a similar fashion which would cause unwanted problems.[5]   Mayor McCoy and Mr. Weatherbee At Mayor McCoy's request, Mr. Weatherbee called Archie Andrews and Betty Cooper down to his office, where they discussed the opportunity of the two teens being featured as the town's heroes at the 75th Anniversary Jubilee. They helped bring peace and justice to their streets once more, and even though that's not exactly what happened, Betty claimed, Weatherbee urged her to allow the Mayor to finish her proposal. A couple days later, he attended the Jubilee, and following the performance of Josie and the Pussycats and Archie, he clapped along with the rest of the crowd as Betty gave her speech pertaining to the crossroads Riverdale was facing.[6] |
Season 2
Mr. Weatherbee joined Coach Clayton and the Bulldogs at Riverdale General Hospital to provide moral support for Archie, after learning that his father had been shot by a black hooded assailant at Pop's Chock'lit Shoppe earlier in the day.[7]   Mr. Weatherbee announcing to the students that Ms. Grundy was killed Mr. Weatherbee entered the classroom with tragic news to share. He revealed to the students that Ms. Grundy, who was the music teacher at the school last semester, was found murdered in her Greendale home the prior night. With some of them being students of her's, like Archie Andrews, he could imagine that the news would be difficult to process. Archie, who is overwhelmed with pain and fear, suddenly got out his seat and exited the classroom.[8]
Endorsing the Red Circle  Mr. Weatherbee discovering the Red Circle flyers While walking the halls of Riverdale High School, Mr. Weatherbee immediately noticed that all the lockers were covered with flyers, instructing those that are scared or in need of protection to call The Red Circle; a group watch organization being headed by Archie Andrews. The following day, Mr. Weatherbee joined Sheriff Keller and Archie by the lockers. The Sheriff then told him about Archie's private army, which much to his surprise, Mr. Weatherbee was fully aware of. He endorsed the movement, informing Sheriff Keller that the Red Circle was, in fact, a school club. Archie had shown tremendous initiative. Mr. Weatherbee wouldn't fault him for wanting to protect his fellow students.[9] Disbanding the Bulldogs  Mr. Weatherbee disbanding the football team After hearing of the video that the Red Circle posted online, where they threatened to hunt down the Black Hood, Mr. Weatherbee called Archie down to his office to express his discomfort with Archie's sentiment and to inform him that he was suspended from the football team, effective immediately. The doubling down on that by disbanding the team entirely until the Red Circle was brought to an end. If Archie hasn't written a signed letter apologizing to the Riverdale High community by week's end, his suspension will begin and will continue until he complied. Care to rethink your position, Mr. Weatherbee asked Archie, to which he replied that they all have to do what they think is right, meaning he had no intentions of disbanding the Red Circle.   Mr. Weatherbee and Sheriff Keller finding a black hood Mr. Weatherbee and Sheriff Keller interrupted Dr. Phylum's class to pull Archie out in the hallway after getting a tip from a bodega owner on the south side that a Riverdale High School student with red hair was waving a gun around outside his shop. Archie claimed that he was in his garage working on some songs. Nevertheless, given Archie's behavior over the last several days, he and the Sheriff believed that a look in Archie's locker for any weapons or contraband was warranted. With Archie's father having already been informed of the search, Mr. Weatherbee instructed Archie to open the locker or else he would. Inside, they found a black hood, greatly resembling the one that Archie previously described.[10] Souhtside High Transfers  Mr. Weatherbee announcing the closing of Southside High Mr. Weatherbee announced over the intercom that effective immediately, Southside High was shut down, and its students would be transferred to other schools in the district, including Riverdale High. He believed that the soon to be released statement would address their concerns, as well as their parents'. While he was sure that many of them had questions, it went without saying that they were welcoming the transfers with open minds, hearts, and arms. The next day, Weatherbee broke up a verbal altercation between the recent transfers (Jughead Jones, Toni Topaz, Sweet Pea and Fangs Fogarty) and some of his regular students (Veronica Lodge, Archie Andrews, Reggie Mantle and Cheryl Blossom).   Weatherbee and Reggie accusing the Serpents of vandalizing the school's seal Later that day, in the student lounge, as the newcomers were becoming adjusted, Mr. Weatherbee called them out into the hallway, in search of the culprit responsible for defacing the school's seal with a spray-painted on Serpent. Next to Weatherbee stood Reggie, who the transfers, along with Veronica, suspected of being the actual vandal. Despite the Serpents pleading their innocence, Weatherbee continued to accuse them of vandalizing the school seal. His suspicion only grew as with Reggie in his ear, who claimed that the Serpents were doing what they do best by tagging their turf. Having fallen victim to Reggie's lies, effective immediately, Weatherbee outlawed gang behavior of any kind. As of that moment, Serpent jackets would no longer be tolerated and tattoos were expected to be covered. Possession of any gang paraphernalia would lead to immediate suspension. The next day, Weatherbee was forced to break up a fight between the Serpents and the Bulldogs in the student lounge. After pulling the rivaling groups apart, he gave each of them a week of detention. However, he didn't stop there. Weatherbee looked to Jughead, reminding him that gang paraphernalia, more specifically his jacket, had been banned. Should Jughead refuse to take it off, he would be suspended. In that case, Jughead took the suspension as he walked out the office with his Serpent jacket still on.[11]   Mr. Weatherbee suspending Betty and Jughead from the Blue and Gold Mr. Weatherbee called Betty Cooper and Jughead Jones down to his office to confront them about Jughead's article attacking General Pickens. There had been a steady stream of outrage since the publishing of the article, most recently, Hiram Lodge's lawyer, Paul Sowerberry. He called to alert them that they were considering taking legal actions against the Blue and Gold on the grounds of defamation of character. Effective immediately, both Betty and Jughead were suspended from the newspaper staff. They were given a day to clean out their things.[12] Mr. Weatherbee was approached by Betty Cooper and Jughead Jones with an article that they were hoping the Blue and Gold could publish. Unfortunately, Mr. Weatherbee refused to publish Jughead's article as he didn't condone the malicious takedown of a fellow students' parents i.e. Veronica.[13]   Weatherbee at Midge's funeral The town gathers for Midge Klump's funeral to pay respect. Cheryl sings a song in Midge's honor. She and the rest of the River Vixens are dressed in an all-black cheerleader uniform. Midge's death has seemingly taken a great toll on Riverdale, Mrs. Klump and Moose especially. Weatherbee stands alongside Ethel and Moose as the service commences.[14] Mr. Weatherbee calls Fangs Fogarty to his office after the behind the scenes documentary footage of Fangs in Midge's dressing room is leaked on the Register's website.[15] Mr. Weatherbee arrives at Riverdale High to find the school in shambles. He enters the hallway as the Bulldogs and Serpents are about the face off, though he brings an end to it.[16] Mr. Weatherbee sends out a memo following riot night, which claims that Riverdale High is overcrowded, resulting in the transfer of all Southside High students to Seaside High, which is two hours away. However, this sudden transfer is actually do to Sweet Pea and the Serpents trashing the school.   Weatherbee is confronted by the students Later that week, Weatherbee exits his office to find that the students, from both the North and Southside, have united in a show support of the Southside students who are being wrongly transferred. They are all wearing Serpent jackets. Archie explains that everyone is ready to walk out. Mr. Weatherbee threatens to expel any student that does, though Archie calls his bluff. He knows that Weatherbee is a good man who doesn't discriminate, and if he isn't, Archie tells Weatherbee to expel him as he doesn't wish to be apart of that. With that being said, Weatherbee tells everyone to get to class.   Election day Both the mayoral election and student body election are held in the gymnasium of Riverdale High. Among the voters are Weatherbee, Pop Tate, Sweet Pea, Josie, Moose, Veronica, Reggie and many others. Afterward, Mr. Weatherbee announces that the student council election votes are in. The new student body president of Riverdale High is Archie Andrews. The entire student body applauds his election. In unrelated news, Weatherbee also announces that for the foreseeable future, all former Southside High students will remain at Riverdale High. The entire student body applauds once more in celebration. The next day, in the school gymnasium, Weatherbee welcomes all in attendance for Archie's inauguration. He first calls Josie up to sing the National Anthem. Her performance is interrupted by Sheriff Minetta, who places Archie under arrest for the murder of Shadow Lake resident, Cassidy Bullock.[17] |
Season 3  Weatherbee tells Veronica that Cheryl is petitioning to be president Weathebee is approached by Veronica, who wanted to make him aware that she'll be stepping in as interim student body president. Unfortunately for Veronica, Cheryl has already petitioned to be president. the following day, Weatherbee converses with Major Mason, Moose Mason's father, the new RROTC instructor.[18] With the Gryphons and Gargoyles epidemic spreading throughout Riverdale like a deadly virus, the town was forced to take action, starting at Riverdale High, where Principal Weatherbee has initiated a series of locker searches, confiscating Gryphons and Gargoyles player manuals were found.[19] Weatherbee stands alongside Mayor Lodge as Sheriff Minetta addresses Archie's escape from juvie. Minetta confronts those who he deems to be suspects. A few students in particular catches the sheriff's attention. When he asks where Josie was during the time of the breakout, she claims she was alone in the music room. Sheriff Minetta will be looking into all their alibis. As he continues to antagonize Josie, she suddenly has a seizure. Cheryl rushes to her aid, catching Josie and telling the sheriff to back off.[20] Following a mass seizure, Principal Weatherbee announces over the intercom that they are closing the student lounge. Accompanied by at least half a dozen men in blue hazmat suits, Weatherbee begins rounding up the "infected". When Weatherbee points out Veronica, she makes a run for it.   Weatherbee holds a school board meeting Principal Weatherbee later holds a school board meeting in his office. Penelope, Alice, Hiram, and Hermione are in attendance. Penelope insists that the school be shut down until they know what is causing the seizures. Principal Weatherbee informs her that they’re taking as many precautions as they can. What they should be doing Penelope says is tracking down patient zero and running every possible test on them. Alice cuts Penelope off, stating that tonight’s discussion is about that fate of Riverdale High. Hiram interrupts as he is in favor of shutting down the school, as are most parents given the fact that five more kids have suffered seizures just that afternoon. Which is why Hermione will be signing an executive order shutting down Riverdale High until it is deemed safe. Veronica and Cheryl interrupt the meeting to reveal Hiram's master plan, the expansion his ever-growing drug empire, which now consists almost exclusively of Fizzle Rocks. Hermione questions what Veronica’s talking about. Hiram decides to address all of Veronica's point, completely dismissing all claims. Penelope then comes to his defense before collapsing to the floor and seizing. Hermione and Alice run to her to assist.[21] Mr. Weatherbee welcomes Archie back to Riverdale High as he continues his transition back into his life. Weatherbee advises him to be realistic in terms of his goals. The SATs are approaching and Archie hasn’t had much of a chance to prepare. Mr. Weatherbee strongly recommends that Archie repeat his junior year, meaning he won’t graduate with his friends.[22]   Weatherbee scolds Jughead and Toni After breaking up a fight between, the Serpents, Pretty Poisons, and the Farm, Weatherbee reprimands Jughead and Toni for the actions of their respective gangs by. They try to explain that they were simply breaking up the fight, but Weatherbee isn’t interested in their excuses. This brawl is only the last incident of gang activity at Riverdale High. Someone robbed the Chemistry lab the night before of thousands of dollars of equipment, all of which can be used to cook drugs. Jughead and Toni profess their innocence as neither of their gangs cook drugs, nevertheless, Jughead gets one more strike and then he’s out of Riverdale High.[23]   Weatherbee hears out Hermione's concerns Principal Weatherbee is approached by Mayor Lodge after discovering that this year’s musical is Heathers, which focuses on teen violence and suicide. Hermione explains that this is a terrible idea given the tragedy of last year’s musical. Kevin and Evelyn are there to maintain their stance and see to it that the play goes on. While Heathers deals with teen alienation and desperation, it’s characters however long for simpler and more innocent times. Its ultimate message is a rejection to nihilism. Kevin and Evelyn then proceed to sing the lyrics of the first song in hopes of convincing Hermione that the musical is in everyone’s best interest. Kevin reveals to Weatherbee and Hermione just how clueless they are in regards to what the students are dealing with. In the classroom sits Josie, Archie, Reggie, Sweet Pea, Fangs, and Evelyn, who all proceeds to break out in song and dance, leading Hermione to questions if they’re all truly this miserable. Kevin explains that there’s also Cheryl, who’s floating above it all as Heather Chandler.   Weatherbee dismisses Betty's concerns Betty goes to Weatherbee with the photos she took from the Gargoyle Chamber of Evelyn, Kevin, and Fangs surrounded by members of the Farm. Betty claims that the musical is being used to indoctrinate students into a cult. From Weatherbee’s perspective, it looks like they’re simply rehearsing. Betty insists that the photos capture some kind of ritualistic ceremony. However, Weatherbee would beg to differ. The Farm is a fully sanctioned club, approved by Weatherbee after he read Edgar’s doctrine. Which Weatherbee found to be fascinating.   Weatherbee is a member of the Farm Weatherbee attends the school musical, Heathers. The musical ends with Betty, Jughead, Archie, Sweet Pea, Toni, Reggie, Josie, Veronica, Cheryl, Kevin, Evelyn, and Fangs on stage singing "Seventeen". As the musical concludes, Edgar Evernever rises from the audience, clapping slowly and very dramatic-like. He is joined by Weatherbee and over a dozen members of the Farm, who are all wearing white and join in on the slow clap.[24] Weatherbee stands quietly alongside Cheryl as she, along with Evelyn, Fangs, and Kevin, advocate for the Farm, spreading the word around school. "Where the one become many and the many become one".[25]   Polly, Kevin, and Weatherbee welcome Betty Weatherbee joins Cheryl, Toni, Edgar, Alice, Polly, Evelyn, Kevin, and the other Farmies in setting a trap for Betty, who they seek to recruit into the Farm. Betty reveals that Edgar is already married to Evelyn, but everyone is well aware. There are no secrets at the Farm. They’ve all come together to get Betty to join them. Edgar explains that everyone Betty cares about is in the room, her mother, sister, best friend, cousin and sister. In unison, the Farmies recite "Join us." If only for a second, it seems that Betty begins to consider the offer, but she declines it nonetheless and takes off running, with Cheryl, Toni, Kevin, Evelyn, and the other Farmies just behind her. Betty just barely makes it to her car and pulls off.[26] |
Physical Appearance
Mr. Weatherbee is a middle-aged, tall man with a lean but fit build. He has a shaved head, brown skin and dark brown eyes. Weatherbee has predominantly been seen during his work hours, where one would be expected to dress in a professional matter; In his case, dark-colored suits. His everyday choice of clothing is not very different, consisting of a more casual shirt and pants.
Edgar cut off the little finger of his right hand while interrogating farmies in search of the mole.
Personality
While very little is known of Mr. Weatherbee's personality, he appears to be fairly stern and straightforward. Under the impression that Archie Andrews was withholding information pertaining to the death of Jason Blossom, Weatherbee was frank in approaching him by asking Archie if he had any knowledge of Jason's case.

- In Archie Comics, Mr. Weatherbee has appeared in many iterations, often for comic purposes. Unlike the TV series, his comic counterpart is a middle-aged Caucasian man, plump and with a certain impatience towards Archie and the Gang, famous troublemakers at Riverdale High School.
- In The Archie Show, the animated series produced by Filmation from 1968 to August 1969, a recurring sketch sees Mr. Weatherbee seriously concerned for his mental health when accidentally witnessing events caused by Sabrina Spellman's magic.
