Sweetwater River is located in the forests of Riverdale. It serves as a boundary between Riverdale and Greendale.
The river was named Sweetwater in reference to the maple syrup industry that helped build the town.
On the first Saturday after the start of the school year, Jason Blossom's body washed up on the shores of the river after he had been missing following an early morning boat ride with his sister Cheryl, which she later revealed was a plot to help Jason run away.
