Archie want to revive the department

After seven years of absence, Archie Andrews returns to Riverdale and finds it a ghost town. He makes it his primary job to get Riverdale back on its feet, and this includes reinstate a Fire Department. Archie and Jughead have managed to extinguish the flames engulfing the house. This provokes Archie to revive the fire department. He goes looking through old family boxes, where he finds a photo of his Grandpa Artie, who was a fireman back in the day. The rookie in the picture with his grandpa ended up becoming the fire chief within 20 years. He’s now retired but still lives in Riverdale. Archie's hoping to recruit him.

Archie meets with Chief Russell at Pop's Chock'lit Shoppe to resurrect the fire department. Unfortunately, Chief Russell isn’t up to the task, explaining to Archie that Hiram fire-bombed the fire house. While it was an honor working with Archie’s grandpa, Chief Russell has nothing else to offer.

Archie tells Veronica about his meeting. Fortunately, the ex-boyfriend of the roommate of Veronica’s best friend, Katy Keene is an actual firefighter, and Veronica offers to bring him to Riverdale to train the volunteers.

First day of training

Bernardo Bixby, the firefighter at Engine 141 in New York City arrives in Riverdale for an intense training at the former El Royale gym. At school, Archie recruits cadets who volunteer to help.

Day one of Riverdale’s volunteer fire academy has begun, led by Archie and Corporal Eric Jackson, who has brought in Bernardo to train the volunteers. He reveals that the most important lesson they will ever learn is to always work as a team and to never run into a burning building alone. He then proceeds to train the volunteers through various exercises.

Archie responds to the first call

While training the volunteers, Archie, Eric, and Bernardo get word that the pool hall is burning down. They learn that Earl is trapped inside, and Archie goes rushing into the burning building after him.

Kevin Keller and Fangs Fogarty meet up with Archie at the community center after hearing that Weatherbee nixed Archie’s RROTC cadets from being volunteer firefighters. Kevin and Fangs have come to join Archie, but he tells them that it’s too late. Bernardo’s back in New York. There’s no one left to train them. Chief Russell then enters after hearing that Archie ran into a burning building to save a man. It inspired him to join them. Just as he remarks that a fire truck would be nice to have, Veronica arrives in a vintage red fire truck. She tells Archie not to worry about paying her back, as they’ll be putting out a Firefighters of Riverdale calendar to defray the costs. In the meantime, she just wanted to help.[1]

Betty lays across her bed, waiting for Archie as he exits the bathroom wearing his firefighter uniform. He joins her on the bed, and the two proceed to kiss.[2]

Tom is held hostage at the fire dept.

When Sheriff Keller, Governor Dooley and Hiram Lodge are kidnapped by Ted Bishop, Darla and Dodger Dickenson, they are held hostage among the Fire Dept. trucks at El Royale gym. Archie, Kevin, Fangs, Frank, Reggie save them using secondary entrances and the sagging roof to their advantage to descend from above in a surprise effect, with Veronica buying time pretending to deliver the palladium requested in the ransom call.[3]

When Josie McCoy returns to visit Riverdale, Archie briefs her on recent events including posing for a sexy firefighters calendar.[4]

Archie and Frank get a call during dinner, and they have to rush to work. Veronica isn't satisfied with this new home life, especially when she wanted to take a shower with Archie back from work but, instead, she finds Jughead brushing his teeth and Frank in the shower. Frank reveals that Archie stayed to sleep at the department so that the others could go home.[5]

Archie, Fangs, Frank, and Kevin are at the station playing cards when they receive the call about a fire at pops. However, when they reach the truck, they discover that the tires have been slashed, forcing them to change the tires, thus delaying their arrival at Pop's.

Archie and the gang weren't in time to save Pop's from burning

The gang is devastated with what remains of Pop's after the fire, though none more than Tabitha. Archie apologizes for not arriving sooner, but Tabitha insists that it's not his fault. In fact, he and the fire department are the only reason the diner is still standing. She's not even sure how to call Pop Tate in Florida and tell him that the family business went up in flames. According to Sheriff Keller, who took Delores' statement, it was the Ghoulies who threw the Molotov cocktail that set Pop's ablaze. Veronica is almost certain that they were merely hired hands, doing her father's work. Assuming the sheriff is correct, Toni and Fangs assure Tabitha that they will take care of the Ghoulies. However, as far as Archie is concerned, they have all the confirmation they need, as no one else besides Hiram would have a motive to set fire to Pop's and slash the tires on their firetruck.[6]
