Marty Mantle

Marty Mantle is a recurring character on The CW's Riverdale. He is portrayed by Matthew Yang King.

He is the father of Reggie Mantle and is an alumnus of Riverdale High School. During his adolescence, he was a member of the Riverdale Bulldogs and The Midnight Club.

Early Life[]

Marty was born in Riverdale. His father presumably owned and founded the Mantle auto dealership which soon became the family business. He was a student of Riverdale High as a teenager, and during that time, was friends with Tom Keller, Hiram Lodge and Darryl Doiley. During their junior year, they began playing Gryphons and Gargoyles along with Alice Smith, Fred Andrews, FP Jones, Hermione Gomez, Sierra Samuels and Penelope Blossom. However, their group, dubbed the Midnight Club, later disbanded and they all proceeded to go their separate ways. He was also the captain and a member of the Riverdale Bulldogs as a teenager and in high school, bullied Hiram Lodge for his poverty which caused the latter to beat him up at the Mantle auto dealership garage as revenge for the bullying. They later on became friends. Marty also did odd jobs at the auto dealership to learn how to eventually it take over from his predecessor.

Afterwards he presumably got into a serious relationship with a girl named Melinda whom he later married. A son resulted from this relationship. Marty became the owner of and inherited the Luxury Car Jamboree, a local car dealership who has recently expanded his business, adding a bigger dealership on the Eastern Seaboard. Reggie, much like a teenage Marty, has spent doing odd jobs learning the business to eventually take over. ^[1]

Marty Mantle is a tall, lean middle-aged man with dark, straight hair and brown eyes. During his adolescence, Marty was a tall, attractive, and athletically built young man with straight black hair, dark brown eyes, and olive skin.

Personality[]

When Marty was a teenager, he had similar characteristics to his son Reggie, associated with the stereotypical jock. In his adulthood, he's a savvy businessman with a short temper that's often directed towards his own son.

In the Archie Comics, he's named Richard 'Ricky' Mantle and owns a newspaper-publishing company, including the local newspaper, The Riverdale Gazette. In the Archie Comics, he's married to Vicky Mantle (renamed Melinda in Riverdale) and is father to Reggie and Oliver Mantle.
In the Riverdale tie-in comics, specifically Issue #5, it's revealed that Reggie's dad is the owner of the Luxury Car Jamboree, a local car dealership who has recently expanded his business and has a bad relationship with his son.
- The tie-in novel Riverdale: The Maple Murders later revealed that Mr. Mantle was also the owner of another car business called Mantle's Used Car Lot.
