An Impending Darkness[]
The Order of Hecate gathers to dedicate the Academy of Unseen Arts to the worship of the triple goddess Hecate. To further honor their Dark Mother, each year they will name a Maiden, Mother, and Crone to embody and exalt Hecate’s three forms. The crone is the keeper of mysteries and arcane wisdom, so Zelda nominates herself. Afterward, Mambo Marie and Zelda celebrate her being chosen as the Crone to represent their coven. Zelda wonders if Mambo truly sees her as a crone. Mambo Marie replies by kissing Zelda and insisting that she does not.
Mambo Marie and Zelda learn from Prudence that Blackwood has released the Eldritch Terrors, and the first of eight, the Darkness, has already arrived in Greendale. Zelda believes that the coven should be protecting itself, rather than Greendale, but Mambo Marie explains that this is the danger she’s been fearing, the same threat that brought her to Greendale. It will bring death to the entire world if they do nothing. And so, Zelda decides to gather the coven in the main room to perform a containment spell to prevent the Darkness from leaving Greendale. Half way through, they get word from Prudence to refocus their energies on Sabrina, who is in the heart of the Darkness and manages to trap it.[1]
Hilda's Wedding[]
Mambo Marie attends Hilda's wedding at the Desecrated Church and then joins Zelda during the reception at Dorian's Gray Room, where Sabrina gets drunk and gives a toast about love and the Uninvited arrives, absorbing Dr. Cerberus' incubus before killing Dorian. He threatens to kill the rest of the coven until Sabrina intervenes and invites him to a wedding in Hell. Later, Mambo returns to the mortuary with the Spellmans, where Hilda has the small marriage she always dreamed of with close family and friends in their parlor dressed up as monsters.[2]
The New Weird Sisters[]
The coven gathers at the Desecrated Church, where Ambrose explains that the Eldritch Terrors are ancient entities that pre-date recorded time and space. They are inhuman and unkillable, as well as world destroying. However, thanks to Harvey and Roz, they have been given prophetic clues as to the terrors yet to come. As the meeting concludes, Mambo Marie asks Roz how did she see the images in the drawings. Roz explains that she has a sixth sense called the cunning that allows her to see things others can’t.
Mambo Marie pays Roz an unexpected visit to tell her that she isn’t a cunning woman, rather a Weird woman, better known as a witch. Her Nana Ruth didn’t tell her the truth about herself. Mambo Marie gifts Roz with the sight of a third eye so that she can speak to her Nana, who reveals that the Walker women are in fact witches. But they couldn’t use that word because they were god-fearing Christian women whereas witches danced with the Devil and were burned at the stake. So, to protect themselves from the same fate, they called themselves cunning women. Given that they’re at war with the Eldritch Terrors, they need as many allies as possible, Mambo Marie explains. She goes on to tell Roz to visit her at the Academy. Harvey then knocks at the door, and Mambo Marie teleports away.
After helping deliver Lilith's baby, Mambo Marie and Prudence test Roz' abilities to determine whether or not she's a witch. Roz wears a blindfold as Prudence plucks a tarot card from the deck. Prudence plucks nearly a dozen cards, all of which Roz identifies correctly. She even knows the upcoming cards before Prudence can pick them. Mambo Marie is amazed, explaining that Roz is a seer. Roz then gets a vision that the Plague Kings are coming for Lilith’s child, which they report to the coven, who defend the Academy from the Plague Kings, killing Asmodeus and greatly wounding Beelzebub.
Mambo Marie takes Roz and Prudence to the Academy’s Observatory. They will each take turns observing the three realms — Earth, the mortal realm, Heaven, the celestial realm, and Hell, the infernal realm. The three of them will be the Sentinels. Roz reveals that she has yet to tell Harvey that she’s a witch. Prudence understands that somethings are best kept secret. Moving forward, the three of them will take shifts while maintaining a constant psychic link. The next terror can occur at any moment, so they will tune themselves to the realms’ energies, and when there’s a significant disruption, they will sense it and get ahead of the danger. Mambo Marie believes this is why Roz was gifted with the ability to sight — to help them stop the terrors. Prudence locks fingers with Roz and Mambo Marie and refers to the three of them as the "new Weird Sisters."[3]
The Perverse[]
In the new, warped reality created by Blackwood with the Imp of the Perverse, Mambo Marie and Zelda are simple school instructors, completely unaware that they are actually witches. Mambo Marie enter Zelda's office to inform her of Emperor Blackwood’s arrival. In fear that Sabrina’s presence will cause more trouble for her school, Zelda orders Sabrina to hide in her office. Blackwood reports to Zelda that his spies have heard troublesome rumors about her school. He asks if she is in possession of any art or literature that would be in violation of state decency laws. There have also been reports of cries in the night. Zelda insists that none of this is true. However, they have been practicing at a song. One of Blackwood’s favorites. Mambo Marie leads the choir in performing Tomorrow Belongs to Me. However, Blackwood notices that Nick isn’t singing along and demands that Nick sing to him. Afterward, Prudence returns with several crates of what she has deemed to be degenerate items. Blackwood tells her to burn the items and arrest Nick. After Blackwood leaves, Sabrina assure Zelda that she’ll save Nick and tries to remind them that they’re a powerful coven of witches, but Zelda insists that she leave.
After regaining their memories from Zelda's stone soup, the Order of Hecate and the resistance plot their move against Blackwood during the day of execution at the Desecrated Church, where he intends to kill Nick, Agatha, Theo, and Roz. The Order of Hecate comes together and bind Blackwood while Ambrose destroys the Imp, but the Imp is a replica. Agatha and Sabrina explain to Prudence that they’re trapped in a warped reality and that no one hates Blackwood more than her. Mambo Marie and Roz then ask Prudence for answers on to end this reality. Prudence reveals that they have to wish on the Imp not destroy it. The real Imp is kept in a safe at Dorian’s. So, Robin races to Dorian’s to retrieve the Imp, but when Sabrina wishes on the Imp for the world to be restored, nothing happens. Roz, Prudence, and Mambo Marie, the Weird Sisters, reveal that this Imp is also a false idol before Sabrina realizes that Anubis is the Imp. She places her hand over the dog and wishes the world back to normal.[4]
The Conjoined Cosmos[]
While monitoring the realms from the Observatory, Mambo Marie notices the stalagmites that have popped up across the world. She calls Sabrina and Ambrose and reveals that the mortal realm and the infernal realm are pushing together. Ambrose believes that this is the result of two Sabrinas existing simultaneously. Now the two realms are falling into each other to crush one or both Sabrinas. Sabrina admits that Ambrose is right and agrees to tell the aunties.
The Spellmans and the Morningstars discuss the impending collision of Hell and Earth. They need to do more than stop the collision. The need to push the two worlds away from each other. Having eavesdropped from the hallway, Nick proposes they reverse the realms’ polarities. So, Mambo Marie and Ambrose watch from the Observatory as Spellmans and Nick stand at the epicenter of Hell while the Morningstars stand at the epicenter of the mortal realm and summon their opposing energies. However, the realms are too enmeshed, and Ambrose instructs them to stop.
An angel named Metatron arrives and reveals that celestial realm is falling on top of them. For the cosmos to survive, one Sabrina must die or merge together as one. So, Maetatron gives the two Sabrinas six hours to say goodbye to their friends and family. Six hours later, Metatron begins the merge but is interrupted by Ambrose, who explains that there are three new realms approaching on a collision course with their own. They are the next Eldritch Terror, the Cosmic. Metatron withheld this from them. Metatron insists that the merge must proceed or else the rogue cosmos will destroy their three realms. When Metatron tries to complete the merge, the Spellmans and the Morningstars kill the angel. Ambrose reveals they could still avert the collision by sending one Sabrina from their Earth to the other Earth. So, Spellman and Morningstar decide to settle this with Rock, Paper, Scissors, which Spellman wins, and so Morningstar must go to the other Earth.[5]
Return to the Underworld[]
After Zelda is reunited with her dead familiar, Vinegar Tom, Mambo Marie comes to a realization and reveals that the latest Eldritch Terror is upon them. The lèmò are coming. In other words the resurrected dead. The Returned is the next Eldritch Terror. Mambo Marie says to be careful, as the dead are not as they seem. They will not remember everything nor will they remember they’ve died. She warns the Spellmans against upsetting the dead or else bad things will happen. The dead have an avatar, one Mambo Marie must face alone. She then goes out into the Spellman cemetery and calls out to Lazarus, an old friend of hers, and suggests playing a game of Senet.
Mambo Marie and Lazarus play a game of Senet at Dorian's Gray Room. To win, they must move their pawns to the end of the board, to the afterlife. However, should Lazarus win, the dead will never return to the land of the living and suffer endlessly along with the living.
Lilith interrupts Mambo Marie’s game with Lazarus. She seeks a boon from him. She requests that he return her child to life, however, without a body, he cannot help Lilith. Lazarus then proceeds to win the game, meaning that the living and the dead will forevermore be entwined and suffer, feeding the Void as it approaches. However, before he can finalize this act, Lilith kills him with the Spear of Longinus. Lilith figured if the spear could kill the Nazarene then it could kill one of his last remaining miracles. Mambo Marie thanks Lilith and tells her that she will receive a boon, though not the one she sought.
Mambo Marie returns to the Academy to say goodbye to Zelda. When she leads the dead back to their grave, she must stay with them. Mambo Michelle Marie LeFleur is not her true name. Mambo Marie is actually Baron Samedi, a powerful Haitian loa, the almighty father of the Gede loa, the spirits of death and rebirth. Now that the great confusion between life and death have been resolved, Baron must return to the underworld. But when it is Zelda’s turn to leave this life and enter the next, Baron will be there. Or if she should need him before that, Baron gives Zelda a magical object to shake when needed, and he will come to her.
Mambo Marie leads the dead back into their graves, including Mrs. Kosgrove, Elspeth, Dorcas, and Edward. The Spellmans watch from their front porch as the dead return. Baron looks over to Zelda and reveals his true form. As a goodbye gift, he allows Vinegar Tom to remain with Zelda.[6]
