Malachai is the leader of the Ghoulies, and a drug dealer who controls the operation of dealing Jingle Jangle at his place, "The House of the Dead." He was challenged by the Serpent Prince, Jughead, to a Street race, in exchange for territory if they won, however, the Riverdale Drag Race was later interrupted by the cops, and Malachai and his buddy was arrested for illegally street racing, along with any other Ghoulies that attended the event.
It is unknown at the moment as to what point the Ghoulies came to be, or if there was a previous leader in charge before Malachai. However, at some point during the creation of the Ghoulies gang, Malachai was chosen to become the leader of the Ghoulies.
An Alliance with the Serpents
At "the House of the Dead", Ghoulies leader, Malachai, met with the de facto leader of the Southside Serpents, Tall Boy, to discuss an alliance of sorts between the rivaling gangs. With FP Jones, leader of the Serpents, in jail for his role in a murder case, they were joined by his son, Jughead Jones, who wasn't thrilled to learn of the supposed alliance. As Tall Boy explained, the heat being brought down on all of them and their ranks depleted their respective tribes, so they needed to unite, which would be a lot easier to accomplish if Jughead endorsed the partnership because of his relation to FP, and how that carried weight with the younger Serpents. However, Jughead refused to comply, pointing out that the Ghoulies' selling of Jingle Jangle was the reason why Southside High was raided. "Chaos is how we thrive", Malachai remarked. The Northside declared war by raiding the High school. So, now it was the Southsides turn to respond. Things were changing. Jughead could either adapt to them or suffer the consequences, simply put "evolve or die".
The next day, back at "the House of the Dead", Jughead returned with his friend, Archie Andrews, to challenge Malachai to a street race. Jughead explained that If they won, Serpents remain autonomous and Ghoulies quit dealing at Southside High. However, if Malachai won, the Serpents would fold, and the Ghoulies would be allowed to continue selling their "little straws of death". However, Malachai wasn't pleased by Jughead's offer, as he wanted more before he would agree to Jughead's terms, referring to him as the "Serpent Prince". Their negotiation was then interrupted by Verne, who had apprehended Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge as they attempted to sneak in through the garage. "These are your bitches?" Malachai asked after learning that Jughead and Archie were familiar with the girls. He instructed all four of them to leave, and never come back until they had something better to offer. With Malachai's heavy demands growing, Jughead had no choice but to offer up the Whyte Wyrm, allowing Malachai and the Ghoulies to expand their drug dealing horizons. Malachai accepted Jughead's offer, but only after adding on the Sunnyside Trailer Park.
Nearing the start of the race, Malachai and Jughead shook hands, during which time he was told that the race was to take place over Herk Harvey bridge to dead man's curve. First one back to the starting point would be the winner. Cheryl took to the center of the road as the flag girl, asking both drivers if they were ready before waving her flag, signaling the start of the race. As the two members raced against each other, Jughead took the first leader, while Malachai rammed his car into Jughead's several times, hoping to gain the advantage, which he did. With Malachai and Verne in the lead, they were in a position to cross Herk Harvey's bridge first, given that there wasn't enough room for both cars to cross simultaneously. As they raced closer towards the bridge, Archie, fearing for his life, pulled the safety break, forcing the car to a stop as Malachai and Verne crossed over. However, their substantial lead was short live. After crossing to the other side of the bridge, they discovered Sheriff Keller and the police department awaiting their arrival. Malachai's car came to an abrupt stop, and he and Verne were promptly arrested for street racing,
War with the Serpents
Malachai and the Ghoulies pull up outside Pop's Chock'lit Shoppe after being released from Shankshaw Prison. They trash the diner, breaking windows, causing property damage. Malachai knows that Archie is inside and demands that he come out to face them. He is armed with a spiked baseball bat. Realizing that they're outnumbered, Archie devises a plan. Archie heads to the roof and with Molotov cocktails. He lights it on fire and launches one bottle at the Ghoulies' feet, forcing them to step back, though they maintain their presence at the shoppe. They only retreat when Tom Keller, who is now the former Sheriff of Riverdale, Fred Andrews and FP arrive with a shotgun.
Malachai then regroups with Penny Peabody, a former Serpent who is now working with them as a Ghoulie. After Penny kidnaps a Serpent named Toni Topaz, she arranges a meet up with Jughead. Jughead shows up as planned, though he is surprised by Penny's alliance with Malachai and the Ghoulies. Malachai and Penny want to talk, but Jughead sees no reason to continue the conversation. He pulls out his knife and tells them that he's taking Toni. However, Malachai won't allow for it. With a taser in hand, he tells Jughead that he's been waiting to see him again for a long time. It seems that Jughead did not come alone. He called Cheryl, who armed with her bow and arrows, tells Malachai to stand down and requests that Toni be untied. Malachai and Penny comply, but Penny tells Jughead to remember that when his friends are dead, she tried to give him a chance to stop it. Jughead asks what Penny wants. She replies that she wants the Southside. There's money to be made in Riverdale. So, she partnered with the Ghoulies to sell drugs on the Southside. She makes Jughead one final offer. The Serpents leave Riverdale tonight or there will be a showdown at Pickens Park at dawn with the Ghoulies.
It would later be revealed that Malachai, Penny and the Ghoulies were hired by Hiram Lodge. Jughead meets with them after making a deal with Hiram. If he hands himself over to them, then there will be no bloodshed tomorrow. Penny doesn't quite understand why getting Jughead out of the way is so important to Hiram than an all-out Serpent annihilation. Jughead is vastly outnumbered. He questions if Malachai needed that much backup because he's afraid of him. Malachai replies that the only thing scary is what they're going to do to Betty when they find her. Jughead punches Malachai in the face. The Ghoules then jump him. Penny watches as the Ghoulies brutally attack Jughead. She remarks that while he is a true hero, his sacrifice was for nothing because come morning, Riverdale as Jughead knows it will cease to exist. The Ghoulies then hold Jughead down as Penny gets her pound of flesh by cutting off his Serpent tattoo.
On the other side of town, at the Whyte Wyrm, Hiram calls a meeting with all his accomplices i.e. Penny, Penelope, Claudius, Malachai and Sheriff Minetta. It's been months in the making but the time has finally arrived. Hiram welcomes them all to New Southside. Penelope asks about Hermione, who Hiram explains can't be privy to certain machinations now that she's mayor. But the plan remains the same. The prison will soon be up and operational, with Claudius' drugs running through it. "Like brother, like brother", Penny comments. Malachai and his Ghoulies will be their soldiers and dealers, with Penny troubleshooting. And hopefully, doing a better job than she did of killing Jughead, Hiram remarks. However, as Penny explains, he wasn't breathing when they left him. Penelope reminds Hiram that he promised her a brothel, which Hiram intends to make good on. As for Archie, Jughead, Betty and Veronica, they are not of concern as far as Hiram is concerned as steps have been taken to tear them apart.
Malachai, Penny and the Ghoulies set a trap for Jughead and the Southside Serpents by stealing the Serpents' dog Hot Dog. The plan works as expected. As Jughead arrives with Betty, Cheryl, Toni, Sweet Pea and Fangs, Malachai, Penny and the Ghoulies surround Jughead. Penny wants to talk, specifically about the spies he had been sending all summer, trying to get into their business. Penny warns him to back off unless he wants to replay riot night, where they almost killed him.
Jughead admits to sending scouts, but lies and says that it was only to retrieve Hot Dog. As he begins to walk away, Penny notices his Serpent jacket. It says "South Side Serpents" despite the fact that the south side no longer belongs to the Serpents, meaning that Penny wants his jacket. Penny had heard about Betty joining the Serpents and contemplates going after her next. With that in mind, Jughead agrees to give up the jacket so long as the Ghoulies stay out of the north side. As Malachai approaches Jughead, he is shot in the shoulder with an arrow by Cheryl, much to Jughead's dismay. When Penny orders the others to just kill the young Serpents, Jughead orders Cheryl to aim her next arrow at Penny, forcing Penny to call off her men. She lets Jughead go, but not before telling him that he just made the north side fair game.
Malachai appears to be very tall and slim, he has really long dark brown curly hair on the top of his head with the sides and the back cut shorter, while also having very little facial hair on his face, he also has dark brown eyes. Malachai often accentuates his athletic physique by wearing unbuttoned shirts and using body painting to create a ghoulish appearance when headed for fights.
Malachai is reckless, he possesses the qualities of your typical "Bad Boy" would have. He has very poor views on women, and refers to them as "bitches" and "skanks", as seen when Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge were caught and brought into his home by his boys, who were also members of the Ghoulies. He is also very greedy, and very demanding when it comes to making deals.
