CAOS-Caps-1x01-October-Country-139-Dark-Lord

The Dark Lord emerges from the hanging tree

On Wednesdays, October 29th, Sabrina Spellman goes to a orchard in Greendale to find a Malum Malus, an apple that reveals the future. Sabrina wants to know if she should go on with her Dark Baptism, and so she bites the apple which after a few moments becomes rotten and crawling with maggots. The Malum Malus almost instantly takes effect. Sabrina’s hands are now covered in blood and she finds herself surrounded by numerous dead witches hanging from a tree that's on fire, from which the Dark Lord emerges. As he approaches Sabrina, she spits out the apple, bribing her back to reality.[1]

On the night of Samhain, October 31st, Sabrina goes in the middle of the Greendale woods to get baptized into the Church of Night by the High Priest, Father Blackwood. The entire coven is in attendance. A black goat named Black Narcissus is also present as a symbol of the Dark Lord. During the ceremony, it takes the shape of the Dark Lord himself briefly. Father Blackwood smears blood over Sabrina's forehead and read Sabrina her rights and demands her loyalty. However, when it comes time to sign the Dark Lord’s Book of the Beast with her blood, Sabrina backs out after realizing that she would have to give up her free will. She has another vision of the Dark Lord emerging from a tree where witches were hanged. She takes off running after seeing her parents, Edward and Diana, in the shadows, telling her to run.

The Dark Lord grants Madam Satan another chance

At the Wardwell house, Madame Satan prays to the Dark Lord for forgiveness after failing to deliver him Sabrina. He approaches her and gives her another chance. She is gracious, so much so that she kisses his cloven feet. Madame Satan promises that she won't fail him again.

Monday, November 3rd. Sabrina returns to Baxter High and is summoned in Principal Hawthorne's office. Sabrina enters the principal’s office, where time seems to stop. Blood runs from his eyes and foam from his mouth. He is under the Dark Lord’s possession. While he admires Sabrina's defiance, he demands that she sign his book. But she refuses. The Dark Lord insists that he’ll win in the end because Sabrina’s flesh is mortal and in the end, all mortal flesh must burn.[2]

The Trial of Sabrina Spellman[]

Sabrina's trial

Sabrina receives an Infernal Summons from the Witches' Council. She's been charged with an offense — a Breach of Promise. She made a promise to sign the Dark Lord’s Book of the Beast and then broke it when she ran away. Now she will be judged and tried in front of their coven. During the trial, Sabrina is defended by Daniel Webster, a mortal with experience in Witch Law, while Father Blackwood will be the Devil's advocate. If Sabrina’s dominant nature, witch or mortal, is to be determined, Father Blackwood wishes to test her with human laws, such as subjecting her to Trial by Water to see if she floats or sinks and stripping and examining her in front of the coven for a witch’s mark.

In Court, Hilda comes out with new evidences. Sabrina’s name is printed onto a baptismal certificate from the Holy Mother Church of Greendale, witnessed by Diana and Hilda, meaning there are competing claims upon Sabrina’s soul. However, Webster argues they have a binding contract notarized and dated one day before Edward inscribed Sabrina’s name to the Book of the Beast, therefore rendering Sabrina’s name in the Book of the Beast null and void. Father Blackwood and Webster are summoned to the courts’ private chambers by the Dark Lord himself.[3]

Dreams in a Witch House[]

The Dark Lord in Zelda's dream

The Spellmans are under attack by Batibat, a sleep demon that Sabrina accidentally released from an Acheron Configuration that belonged to her father. Each of the witches are then trapped inside their nightmares. In her nightmare, Zelda is reading to the children about the "false god" and Adam and Eve when the Weird Sisters appear. They tell her that the Dark Lord will be coming over for dinner. Zelda roasts child in his honor. The Dark Lord arrives but decides to only eat Hilda's vegetable pie since Zelda roasted a Child of the Night. The Dark Lord eating and dancing with Hilda only further enrages Zelda. Once the Dark Lord leaves, Zelda hits Hilda over the head with a shovel and kills her. She takes her to the Cain pit to bury her. She is inside washing up when the Dark Lord returns and asks where Hilda is. Zelda explains to him that this is just a game the two of them play and that Hilda will come back. The Dark Lord tells her that this time Hilda is gone forever. Zelda starts wailing and crying at the Dark Lords revelation. [4]

Signing the Book of the Beast[]

Sabrina signs the Book of the Beast

Madame Satan tricks Sabrina into signing her name in the Book of the Beast. After jeopardizing the safety of Greendale by summoning the Greendale Thirteen, the ghosts of the deceased witches summons the Crimson Avenger and Sabrina needs more power to fight them. By signing her name, she'll be giving the Dark Lord dominion over her soul. He asks if she is signing his Book of her own free will and tells her that she must answer his call, whenever, wherever. He slashes her palm and squeezes one drop of blood onto the book below. Sabrina thinks back on everything that's happened as she signs her name in the Book. Sabrina has Dark Baptized herself and becomes a full-fledged witch. [5]
