Lopez Bodega is a family owned bodega in the Washington Heights, New York City, New York.
History[]
Lopez Bodega is a grocery and home goods store located in Washington Heights, New York City. Owned by the Lopez family, the shop is located on the ground floor of a building where the Lopez family live. Katherine Keene also lived in the apartment 4B with her daughter, Katy. They welcomed Jorge after he was kicked out of his house following his coming out.

Jorge and Luisa at the bodega
Luis and Luisa Lopez run the family business with the help of their kids, especially the youngest, Jorge who works there as a stoker. Jorge was working in the bodega when he got the call for an audition for Cats: The Musical.[1]
Katy meets Josie McCoy around the corner from Lopez Bodega. They grab a bite to eat and sit on a park bench, where Katy asks to know more about Josie, her new roommate who just moved to the city from Riverdale.[2]
To thank Bernardo Bixby and the rest of the Engine 141 firefighters who prevented a fire from destroying the apartment and possibly the whole building, the Fab 4 — Ginger, Josie, Pepper and Katy — bring sandwiches and drinks from Lopez Bodega.[3]
During a violent snowstorm, the whole city was blocked and the Fab 4 were left without supplies. Pepper went downstairs to see if there was anything left in the bodega with little hope, as people had already ransacked all the shelves.[4]
Luis and Luisa return to the bodega and inform Jorge that the city contacted the developer, who is forcing them to sell. Luis has been fighting this for years but all the other buildings on the block have already sold. Luisa tells Jorge to let it go, but he refuses. He says that his uncle would rollover in his grave if he found out they were giving up so easily. Jorge holds a rally to stop the sale of his parents building, which includes loosing the bodega if they can't keep up with the rise in rents.

Lopez family receive a visit from Hiram
Jorge arrives at the bodega with all 10,000 signatures. Luis is nearly left speechless. He commends Jorge on how brave he is. He tells Jorge that his uncle would’ve been proud to see Jorge up there. It was his idea to buy the building, but he had secrets that he kept from the rest of the family. Luis is ashamed as he kept those same secrets from Jorge. Jorge’s uncle died of aids. He was gay and he didn’t tell anyone, and by the time Luis found out what was wrong with his brother, it was too late. This is why he reacted the way he did when Jorge came out. He’s afraid of losing Jorge as he did his brother. Jorge assures him that everything is okay and that they’ll always protect each other. Jorge then invites his father to a fashion show.
Jorge, Luis, and Luisa celebrate at the bodega after learning that they have enough signatures to save the block. Hiram Lodge enters the bodega. He is the out of town buyer. He was so close to buying the block, but they stopped him. He was born in the Heights and he feels it’s time for him to come home.[5]
