“ | Today not only marks the opening of the Lodge Detention Center, it also represents a milestone for our town. This building is our promise to you for a safer future. Today, we put our beloved families first. And on that note, I wouldn't be here today if not for the love and support of my daughter Veronica and that of my wife, Hermione, the love of my life, or as most of you call her, Madame Mayor. | ” |
Lodge Detention Center is a private, for-profit prison owned by Hiram Lodge on the south side of Riverdale, located where Southside High once stood.
History[]
Hiram Lodge paid off Mayor McCoy to close down Southside High. The official ruling was that it had been deemed as a public health hazard, claiming toxic fumes were coming from the "methamphetamine lab" in the basement. Students of Southside were transferred to other schools in the district, including Riverdale High. Following its closing, Sierra awarded the deed to Hiram and Hermione.[1] From there, they intended to make way for Hiram's private, for-profit prison that would be build on the bones of the school.[2] Jughead rallied the Southside Serpents and protested the scheduled demolition of Southside High, however, the wrestling team, led by Archie saw an end to that.[3]
Lodge Detention Center also doubles as a drug lab for Hiram's Fizzle Rocks operation. He had all the men of a neighboring town that he owned to help build the prison.[4]
With Hiram's prison nearing its grand opening, Leopold and Loeb Juvenile Detention Center was being shut down and all of its occupants would be transferred to a juvenile wing of the new prison.[5]
