I was living with Jughead then. Yeah, things were good for a while. But then these writing deadlines started to get the best of him, and he started spiraling into this destructive behavior. To be fair, so did I. I'm a writer as well. I mean, we cared about each other. We just weren't good for each other, you know? I couldn't be around that energy, so I got out.

Jessica drugs Betty and Tabitha

Jessica buys Betty and Tabitha a plate of fries. During their sit-down, Jessica brings up the fact that Betty got with Archie and just how much that hurt Jughead. Betty retorts by replying that Jughead isn't so innocent and plays them a voice message from 2 years ago, with Jughead yammering on about how she bailed on him. He said that she pretended to be kind, but she's truly cruel, referring to Betty as a "cold, fake, duplicitous bitch." Jessica had no idea and says that she was living with Jughead then. Their relationship started out good, but then his writing started to get the best of him, causing him to spiral, as did Jessica. They weren't good for each other, so Jessica moved on. When Tabitha starts feeling hot, Jessica reveals that she sprinkled dry maple mushrooms in their food. Her plan was to wait for them to start tripping and ask for the manuscript because Jughead wouldn't ever allow her to read it. She then offers to get them to some place safe.

Jessica helps Betty and Tabitha back to the bunker. After Jughead used Betty as fodder for his book, Jessica was afraid he intended to do the same with her. And she doesn't want her friends and family reading that. Sympathizing with Jessica, Betty hands her the manuscript. Jessica advises them to let the trip take them and ride it out together.[4]

Jessica brings Jughead shrooms

While attending an AA meeting at Riverdale High, Jughead recounts the moments leading up to his book release party, which include his then-girlfriend Jessica. After moving to New York, specifically a cramped apartment in the East Village, Jughead was hit with a lethal case of writer's block. Luckily, Jessica knew where to score some maple mushrooms. Jughead ingested the shrooms and began to trip, which allowed him to write 200 pages that night, and from that first draft came "The Outcast."

The year leading up to the publication of the book was a whirlwind. Jughead was drinking steadily, along with Jessica, who had moved in with him.

Jessica tells Jughead that he's in hospital

The night of Jughead's book release finally arrived, but it quickly began to derail after he got a call from Betty saying that she wasn't going to be able to make the book release after all. So, after a few more drinks, Jughead stumbled his way in the general direction of his party and woke up in a hospital room three days later with Jessica at his side. Jessica told him about how he went on an epic bender before ending up at St. Vincent's. Jughead recovered, but his relationship with Jessica only continued to deteriorate due to all the drinking and fighting. So, when Archie called him, he decided to come back home to Riverdale. Although, his drinking continued, and he hit rock bottom on Skid Row. He figured he needed to go back to New York and find out what happened during those three days he lost during his bender.

Jughead went back to St. Vincent's In New York and requested a copy of his discharge records, which stated that he had been treated for a rabies infection. Jughead then sought out Jessica, who revealed that the doctor's said when Jughead came in, he was raving and ranting about a "Rat King." A man that lived under the streets of New York.[5]
