Drop the butter knife, bitch!
— Jellybean to Penny[src]

Jellybean Jones is a recurring character on The CW's Riverdale. She is portrayed by Trinity Likins.

Jellybean is the younger sister of Jughead Jones and the daughter of Gladys and FP Jones. She is also a member of the Toledo Serpents. As well as a Junior mechanic, as she was shown working under a car in her mothers compound of old car parts.

Character Description

Is wise beyond her years, and her favorite bands are Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath. Jellybean lives with her biker mom in Toledo where they run scams to make ends meet. And like mother like daughter: Jellybean — who goes by JB now — is quite the little con artist herself.[1]

Early Life

Jellybean was born and raised in Riverdale alongside her older brother Jughead. She is the daughter of Gladys and FP Jones, the leader of the Southside Serpents.

When Jellybean was younger, she and her family would spend a lot of time at the Twilight Drive-In, however, they often could not afford tickets for everyone, so the kids would hide in the trunk until they parked.

After Fred Andrews fired her father and he began drinking heavily, Jellybean and her mother went to live with Jellybean's grandparents in Toledo where she started to go by J.B. instead.

Throughout Riverdale

Season 1

The Drive-In & Moving to Toledo

Jellybean was briefly seen in an old photograph of Jughead's when he was leaving the Twilight Drive-In, for the last time. According to Jughead, they would hide in the trunk of their parents' car until parking, as their family was often low on funds, and so sneaking into the drive-in was their only option. [2]

Jughead mentioned that he spoke with Jellybean over the phone. She wanted to be addressed as 'JB', instead of Jellybean because she thought it sounded cooler. He remarked that "she's ten years old, and listens to Pink Floyd on vinyl. I don't think she could get any cooler." Jughead also mentioned that she was helping their mother study for her GED. [3]

Season 3

Jellybean reunites with her older brother Jughead after he and his best friend Archie Andrews unexpectedly shows up at the junkyard in Toledo. She remarks that she thought she smelled something rotten and they give each other a hug.

Jellybean and her mother Gladys discover the reason why Jughead and Archie left Riverdale; they’re running from Hiram Lodge. Gladys always knew he was trouble, but she questions what his vendetta is with Archie. They reveal that Archie was the only one who stood up to him. Not to mention that Archie also dated his daughter. Jellybean is pleased to hear that Archie is no longer dating and single. When Jughead tells Jellybean to relax with her excitement, she reminds him that she now goes by JB. Gladys asks if Archie’s spoken with his dad during any of this, which he hasn’t. Archie wishes he could, but it’s too risky. Archie and Jellybean then take off to eat.

Jellybean shoots Penny with a slingshot

Jellybean thwarts Penny Peabody's attempt to claim the bounty on Archie. Jellybean, who is armed with nothing more than a slingshot, confronts Penny as she holds Archie at knife point. When Penny refuses to drop the knife, Jellybean shoots her in the head, knocking Penny unconscious. They then they tie Penny to a chair and begin interrogating her. Gladys isn’t at all surprised that Penny is working with Hiram since she always had unfixed allegiances. She is however surprised that Penny isn't ratting Hiram out yet, leading Gladys to suspect that Hiram must have something on her. While Penny isn’t a snitch, she will say this; Hiram won’t stop until he gets Archie. And there’s nothing anyone can do. Gladys then addresses the fact that Penny carved off Jughead’s Serpent tattoo. Penny states that was business between her and Jughead. Gladys retorts that she’s Jughead’s mother, also making it her business. Gladys grabs a large hunting knife and tells everyone to go inside. Before doing so, Jughead tells Gladys to ask Penny about Gryphons and Gargoyles and how Hiram fits into it all.

Jellybean and Gladys reunite with FP

The following morning, both Archie and Jughead prepare to leave, but to different destinations; Archie to the border and Jughead to Riverdale. Just outside stands FP, Jellybean's father, waiting to take Jughead home. FP is shocked at how big Jellybean has gotten since he’s last seen her. He asks for a hug. In response, she sarcastically asks for a dad and walks off, a response that FP admits was warranted. Gladys insists that Jellybean misses him, but that she would rather fight it than admit it. Like mother, like daughter, FP replies.[4]

Gladys then gives Jughead, who wonders what they’re doing in town, a hug. Gladys informs the boys that she and Jellybean aren’t just there to visit. They intend to stay awhile.

Jellybean and Gladys hangout at the trailer, and as it seems, they are there for much more nefarious reasons than they’ve lead on. Jellybean remarks that she has FP wrapped around her finger. Gladys adds that Jellybean is FP’s weakness. Which means, they have the whole town. FP is the Sheriff. The mayor owes them a ton of money, and she even has Veronica working for her.[5]

Jellybean heads into the kitchen to grab a cup of coffee, which FP initially questions, but decides to let go. Later, as Jellybean has dinner with with mother and father, Jughead returns home. He reveals that the Ghoulies no longer exist. They’ve joined the Gargoyles. They’re the same guys just in a different mask Gladys states. She still thinks Jughead should’ve recruited them, but Jughead doesn't. He wants to find another way to save the Serpents as Gargoyles aren’t the answer. Jughead explains to them just how deeply lost the Gargoyles are into G&G.

Jellybean and Jughead are surprised by the Gargoyles

As Jughead and Jellybean watch a horror film, several Gargoyles barge into the trailer. Jughead pulls out his knife and Jellybean her slingshot. Surprisingly, the Gargoyles did not come alone. It seems they are now under Gladys’ command. She did what Jughead couldn’t. She tamed the Gargoyles. She then tells them to take off their masks. Kurtz is one of the Gargoyles at Gladys’ disposal. Jughead explains that this can only end badly, which may be true, but they’re desperate by Gladys’ standards.[6]

At Sunnyside Trailer Park, in the Jones’ trailer, Jughead types on his laptop as Jellybean, their mother and father enjoy breakfast in the kitchen. Gladys tells Jellybean and FP to eat up because afterward they’re taking a ride to a surprise location. Gladys then proceeds to groom FP as Jughead watches contentedly.

The Jones family arrive at their new house

The aforementioned surprise is that she bought a house. Unbeknownst to her, she purchased the Cooper house, which they don't realize until Alice and Betty exit the house with boxes. They head inside, where FP inquires about the scorch marks, which Alice claims to be the result of a minor mishap with a candle. Betty questions how her mother could sell the house to the Jones, but it was solely Gladys who made the purchase. She made an all-cash offer online. Both Jughead and FP are hesitant with moving in given that it is the Cooper house. FP wants to walk away from this, but Alice doesn’t think it’s necessary. The house is her past and she wants to be done with it.

Jellybean later attends her father's 50th Birthday Party at La Bonne Nuit along with her mother, Jughead, and Betty. After Gladys gets on stage to thank everyone for coming out, Jughead gives a speech[7]

The candy store is definitely back open and FP intends to find whoever is cooking the Fizzle Rocks. As Gladys cleans FP’s wounds, Jughead and Betty get ready to leave. He claims that they need to make a quick stop before heading to the play. A little pre-show tradition.

The musical ends with Betty, Jughead, Archie, Sweet Pea, Toni, Reggie, Josie, Veronica, Cheryl, Kevin, Evelyn, and Fangs on stage singing "Seventeen". As the musical concludes, Edgar Evernever rises from the audience, clapping slowly and very dramatic-like. He is joined by over a dozen members of the Farm, who are all wearing white and join in on the slow clap.[8]

During breakfast at the Jones house, FP reveals how one of his deputies found their old trailer burned down with drug material inside. Jellybean then pulls him away with the promise of Saturday morning cartoons.[9]

Jughead learns about the Gospel from JB

At the Jones house, Jellybean is still upset about having been left behind by her mother. Jughead explains to Jellybean that she wasn’t abandoned and their mother leaving town was probably the most selfless thing she had ever done. Still, Jellybean has never lived anywhere without her. Jughead expresses his joy in her staying but while she’s there, Jughead insists that she doesn’t play G & G again. Jellybean, however, doesn’t see the big deal. As far as she’s concerned, it’s just pretend quests in costumes, to which Jughead inquires further about the costumes and who was wearing them. Jellybean tells him about Ricky’s ears and her crown. Not to mention the Gargoyle King, who Jellybean met in person. He gave her a quest. He said that she couldn’t enter the Kingdom until she found the gospel, though Jellybean and Ricky never found it. The Gospel is where the Gargoyle King keeps all his secrets.[12]

Jughead looks to Jellybean for answers in hope that she knows of Ricky’s whereabouts. Jughead tells her how he has been working for the Gargoyle King, which is putting a lot of people’s lives in danger. Jellybean reveals that Ricky is in Fox Forest, preparing to ascend. Hoping to get to Ricky before it’s too late, he asks that Jellybean draw him a map.[13]

Dressed in his Stonewall Prep uniform, Jughead asks his father and sister how he looks. FP states that he looks like a gentleman, however, Jellybean appears sad to see him leave, even as Jughead promises her that he’ll be back every weekend. FP’s glad that Jughead will be attending. He’s somewhat a legacy. His grandpa Forsythe the First also went to Stonewall, though only for a couple of months until he dropped out. He quit at everything, including being a parent. He went out for a pack of smokes and never came back. FP didn’t mention this before because he wanted Jughead to make his own decision without any outside influences. It’s a chance for Jughead to do something good for himself.

Flash forward to Spring Break, Jughead is missing. Jellybean, Archie, Betty, Veronica, Kevin, Cheryl, and Toni join FP’s police-led search party for Jughead in the dark woods.[15]

Jellybean asks when Jughead will arrive, but Betty isn’t sure. And so, Jellybean heads upstairs to play Minecraft. Betty rushes upstairs after hearing a thud from Jellybean’s room. She finds Jellybean laying on the ground bleeding. Jellybean jumps awake as it was merely a prank. The phone rings. Betty tells Jellybean to lock her room door and to not answer the phone.[17]

While doing her homework, Jellybean is approached by Betty, who asks if she has any fake blood left over from Halloween, which she does. Later, Jellybean helps FP organize a search party for Jughead in the woods. Archie leads FP to Jughead’s body, lying down below in a shroud of bushes.[18]

Betty interrupts and still Donna claims this is all merely an act. As Betty kicks Donna out, she tells Bret to go for the coffin, however, Sweet Pea snatches him by his shirt and pushes him away. Betty then tells him, Donna, and Joan to leave.[19]

Jellybean figures out that Jughead is alive

Unlike everyone else, Jellybean discovered that Jughead was alive on her own. It was after Betty asked her for fake blood. Jellybean brought Betty the blood and asked if she needed it to help Jughead. She heard Betty whispering on the phone to Charles the night before. She didn’t ask to know where Jughead was, only that he was okay. Betty then revealed to Jellybean the entire truth behind Jughead’s disappearance.

At the Jones-Cooper house, Betty, Jughead, Charles, Jellybean, FP, and Alice watch her news report. Betty congratulates her on a job well done. Alice thanks FP with a kiss for providing her with the inside scoop. Betty then leaves, explaining that she has one last T to cross.[20]

Physical Appearance

As a child, she was slim and short with medium-length black hair and brown eyes. Now, as a preteen, her hair is light brown, but her build is still slim and short as she hasn't reached her adult height.

Personality

She is an assertive individual and has a no-nonsense attitude due to her tough upbringing. Unlike her brother, Jughead, she is not as close to her father and resents him for being distant after the separation of her parents. It is known that she likes Pink Floyd and movie theaters, much like her older brother. She also appears to be a very obedient child as shown when she informed her mother she did exactly as she told her to do with her father, stating that she had succeeded in having FP wrapped around her fingers.

Jughead and Jellybean finally reunited

Jellybean's relationship with her brother, Jughead remains vague given that she and Jughead were separated by their mother's move to Toledo to stay with their grandparents. She went with their mother while Jughead stayed behind with their father. Jellybean seems to be very close to her brother, even mocking his arrival to her mother's garage albeit demanding another Serpent to let him through the gates with Archie. Jughead also thinks very highly of his sister and mentions her several times, such as when he told Sierra McCoy about their family's trips to the Twilight Drive-In.
