If it was it was an elaborate one. Over the next few days, then weeks, more and more citizens of Riverdale received copies of similar tapes, footage of their houses being watched from across the street, for hours upon hours. No messages were included with the videos, which somehow made the whole thing even more disturbing, so that by Halloween, the entire town was on edge. Who would get the next tape? What did they mean? Were they a warning? A test?

"Chapter Sixty-One: Halloween" is the fourth episode of the fourth season of Riverdale, and the sixty-first episode of the series overall. [2] It premiered on October 30, 2019.

Toni accuses Cheryl of moving it, but she swears she isn’t. Cheryl asks the spirit for its name, and the planchette moves to the letter "J". Again, Toni accuses Cheryl of moving the planchette, however, Cheryl insists this isn’t her doing. Nana Rose confirms that it’s not Jason or Cheryl moving the board. It’s Julian. Penelope held three babies in her womb. Julius was to be Cheryl and Jason’s triplet, but in the end, only Cheryl and Jason were born because Cheryl absorbed Julian. Penelope was so devastated that she procured the doll and reared it alongside Cheryl and Jason until they were no longer infants, at which point Julian was retired to the attic. Toni is beyond skeptical. She suspects that Cheryl and Nana Rose are working together to make her realize that things were better when Jason was there, so they’d dig him back up and bring him back to the chapel. Toni asks if they bring Jadon back, will the haunting stop and can they get rid of the doll and bury it in Jason’s grave. Cheryl happily agrees to her terms.

As for Charles, he always wanted to be apart of a real family, but he knows that takes time. The phone rings, and Charles begins tracing the call as Betty answers. It’s the prankster again. Betty keeps him talking as Charles traces the call. She asks him if he remembers how on Halloween the four of them used to go trick-or-treating as a family. They’d walk up and down Elm Street, and when they got home, they’d go through their bags. Her dad wouldn’t let her or Polly eat the apples because he thought there were razor blades in them. Once Charles manages to trace the number, Betty hangs up. He traces the call to Shady Grove Treatment Center, where Polly’s been staying. In that case, Veronica suggests cleaning the streets. Archie looks over to his Halloween costume. Veronica hopes that he doesn’t intend to fight crime in them. Archie replies "of course not. I’m gonna need a mask."

Toni approaches Cheryl with Julian’s doll after finding him on the bed. Although, it pains Cheryl to admit it, she was gas-lighting Toni before, but now she swears on Jason’s life that she truly has no idea how the doll got back on the house. Nana Rose tells them it’s Julian who returned the doll.

RD-Caps-4x04-Halloween-123-Jughead

Betty wonders if Moose joined the Army as he was initially planning to. Jughead’s not sure, but he’s made a few calls. Regardless, he knows they chased Moose away. Maybe that’s why they locked him in the coffin, to get him out the way while they terrorized Moose and forced him into leaving. Jughead hates that they kept him from Betty, forcing her to endure the prank callings of Polly all alone. Betty reveals that she wasn’t alone. She was with Charles. She’s starting to warm up to him and is even considering joining the Junior FBI program. She thinks he might be the real deal. Unbeknownst to them, Charles has tapped Betty’s phone and is listening in on the entire conversation. Betty is still upset however that she wasn’t there for Jughead. In a sense, she was. Jughead tells Betty that thinking about her is the only thing that kept him sane. He knows that if he ever went missing that Betty would be the one to find him.

Flash forward, FP and Betty stand over a body in the coroner’s office. Dr. Curdle Jr. removes the sheet to reveal Jughead’s seemingly dead body lying on the coroner’s table.
