"Chapter Thirteen: Come Together" is the thirteenth and final episode of the first season of Katy Keene, and the thirteenth episode of the series overall.[2] It premiered on May 14, 2020.
Synopsis[]
SEASON FINALE - Katy is starting to see things a little more clearly and needs Gloria's help to make her plan work and it leads her to unexpected opportunities. Eager to make things right, Pepper finds a way to make it right with Jorge and Josie, but she must also try to let go of people in her past. Jorge holds a rally to stop the sale of his parents building, but he has no idea who he is going up against. Meanwhile, Josie is worried about Alexander and turns to someone unexpected for help.
Plot[]
Pepper in a cell
Pepper is released from the New York City Police Department on bail, with help from Jorge and Josie. They inform her that the Plant made more than enough to cover her bail. After she called, they raided the bar for her bail money. Pepper asks about Katy, who didn’t show up.
Katy, Amanda, and the girls are called in for a meeting. Mrs. Lacy explains that Lacy's will be closing at the end of the month, as they are being bought out by Caboture. Mr. Cabot informs the girls that Caboture will offer personal shopping positions through their web portal.
Katy tells Francois she's avoiding Guy
Katy assures Francois that he'll find another job, however, he isn’t so sure. He’s designed Lacy’s windows for 30 years and fears that no one will want him. He then informs Katy that he’s waiting on three fashion pieces from Guy, but Katy hasn’t spoken to him since last night when she accused him of stealing her design as well as the designs of his former apprentices. Francois suggests that Katy at least give Guy a chance to explain himself.
Luisa and Luis tell Jorge they're being forced to sell
Luis and Luisa return to the bodega and inform Jorge that the city contacted the developer, who is forcing them to sell. Luis has been fighting this for years but all the other buildings on the block have already sold. Luisa tells Jorge to let it go, but he refuses. He says that his uncle would rollover in his grave if he found out they were giving up so easily. Jorge then hears Xandra and the Kitty Cats playing over the radio and calls Josie, who returns to the apartment just in time to hear her song being sung on the radio by Xandra.
Xandra tells Josie that Alex is using again
Josie arrives at Chubby’s to confront Xandra for stealing her song. She is approached by Chubby, who isn’t thrilled that his shop has been turned into personal advertisement for Xandra and the Kitty Cats. Josie assures him that she’ll handle it. Josie then confronts Xandra in the recording studio. Josie thought that Xandra dating KO would make her a nicer person, but Xandra reveals they broke up. She then tells Josie that Alex is using again. While he won’t talk to her, Xandra hopes he’ll talk to Josie.
Pepper doesn't want in on Ms. Freesia's con
Pepper arrives at the Plant to find Ms. Freesia singing on stage. She rushed to New York after discovering that Pepper was arrested. Pepper demands to know where Ms. Freesia has been. The last time she saw her, she tricked Chad out his money and skipped town. Ms. Freesia insists that this isn’t true. In fact, they’re partners in business. She used the money that Chad invested to buy her way into a much bigger pay off. Ms. Freesia invites Pepper to partake in her con. By the end, she’ll have enough money to buy the building and pay back anyone she owes.
Guy brings Katy three designs for the front window. He admits to stealing from Katy and the apprentices before her. He willfully risked the only things that mattered to him; his name and Katy. He asks Katy to be his lead designer at the House of LaMontagne. It’ll undoubtedly launch her as a designer. He assures Katy that he can be a better designer and a better man if she’s at his side. He asks that she at least consider it.
Katy tells Jorge and Josie that she was offered a job
Katy reveals to Jorge and Josie that Guy offered her the role of lead designer at House of LaMontagne. As someone who had her art stolen, Josie advises Katy against it. However, Katy is still unsure given that Lacy’s is closing. Josie then tells Jorge and Katy that Alex is relapsing. It’s moments like this that sometimes she wonders where she would be if she never met Alex. She’d likely be at the bottom, but at least her voice would belong to her. Katy sympathizes, explaining that she often wonders what her life would be like if she accepted KO’s proposal. On the same note, Josie reveals that Xandra and KO broke up. Katy asks about Pepper. She isn’t quite ready to forgive her.
Jorge invites Buzz to Molly's Crisis and asks for his help in saving his parents' bodega. Buzz reveals that the only thing that can stop an eminent domain takeover is political action. If Jorge gathers enough signatures, he can bring the petition to a city council meeting to block the sale. He needs at least 10,000 signatures.
Pepper tells her father she'll move him into the penthouse one day
Pepper gets a call from the Daily Hail, hoping for an exclusive on her arrest. She claims that she’ll think about it. Gary arrives and tells Pepper that the board rejected his offer to buy the Georgia studio because of Pepper’s arrest. She promises that one day, she’ll get him the penthouse. He tells Pepper that he doesn't want her to live by means of stealing and scamming. Pepper admits that she pretended to have more than she did to get where she needed to. Gary tells Pepper that she should never have to pretend to be someone else and to call him if she finds herself in anymore trouble.
Guy tells Katy that he loves her
Katy accepts Guy’s offer to be lead designer at the House of LaMontagne under the condition that she gets full benefits, an annual bonus, and her own line in three years. Guy agrees to her demands, reasoning that he can’t put a price tag on her talent. Unbeknownst to Katy and Guy, KO watches from the doorway. Admittedly, he has a long way to go, but Guy will do whatever it takes to earn Katy’s trust back. He claims that he loves her, however, Katy doesn’t say it back. Instead, she tells him that he has to apologize to his past apprentices and make it right, but he refuses. Before leaving, he asks Katy not to wear any dresses with big, read hearts.
Jorge stands on the street and tries to get passerby’s to sign his petition, however, he doesn't receive much support.
Katy calls Gloria
Katy reveals to Amanda that this will be her last week at Lacy’s after receiving a job opportunity as lead designer at the House of LaMontagne. However, Katy still worries that Guy is a bad guy. His past apprentices quit fashion because of him. Amanda tells Katy to get over her morals and to clear out her stuff before she leaves. Katy realizes that Amanda is sad and tells her it’s okay to be upset. Lacy’s has taken good care of them. Katy then starts to sing, as she packs her belongings and leaves Lacy’s. She takes the elevator down to the lobby, where she remembers the times spent with her mother, Katherine. Katy then returns to her apartment, only to then go on a stroll around town, passing by the lighthouse. She calls Gloria to schedule a meeting.
Gloria agrees to help Katy
Katy and Gloria meet at a diner, where Katy explains that Jorge is fighting to save his building, and she’s hoping that they can do the same with Lacy’s. Katy having second thoughts about accepting Guy’s offer because she’s doesn’t want to make the same mistakes as her mom, who sacrificed her dreams because a man got in the way. Also, Katy couldn’t live with herself knowing that Guy stole so many of his designs from past apprentices, so she called him and turned down his offer. Gloria is pleased to hear that history isn’t repeating itself and agrees to help Katy save Lacy’s. Katy has a buyer in mind, someone with even more money than Mr. Cabot.
Josie finds cocaine in Alex's coat
Josie calls Alex over after noticing that he was drinking at the Pepper Plant. From past experiences with her dad, Josie knows that one drink is too many. So, she questions what’s on Alex’s mind. He claims that going back to get help from his dad triggered him, but he hasn’t had a drink since. However, he’s tired of the same old back and forth with his family. He proposes that he and Josie move away together to Los Angeles, where he has connections. His nose starts to bleed and he rushes out. Josie notices that he left his coat behind and inside the pocket, she finds a large bag of cocaine.
Pepper helps Jorge get more signatures
Jorge retreats to Molly’s Crisis after only getting 200 signatures for his petition. Pepper tells him that it’s his lucky day. The Daily Hail approached her to be the guest editor on their upcoming issue, and now she knows what article to write about. Pepper asks Jorge is he’s familiar with Miss Subways. A current recipient just relinquished her crown and Pepper wants Ginger to take her place. They can have the coronation at Riverside Park, as well as a performance, gaining the attention of press and people. Jorge knows how his father feels about Ginger and worries how he’ll feel about Ginger in front of the entire community but goes along with Pepper’s plan regardless.
Xandra and Josie meet with Alex in the park. Alex becomes upset, suspecting that his father put them up to this. Josie insists that this is her own doing. They’re simply trying to help Alex after finding cocaine in his coat. Josie and Xandra hopes that he’ll go back to rehab as they have a car waiting for him.
Pepper asks Katy if her can ever forgive her
Katy arrives at the Plant and tells her Pepper not to worry about getting the diamond purse back. Mrs. Lacy is too concerned with selling the store to Mr. Cabot to even notice that it’s missing. Pepper apologizes for everything and promises that she’ll be doing things differently moving forward. While Katy can forgive Pepper for the lies, the fact that she’s been hiding her father is what troubles Katy the most. Katy tells Pepper that everything she thinks that she needs to hide from them are what truly makes her special. Katy then tells Pepper about her plan to save Lacy’s and how Guy offered her a job as his lead designer, which she turned down. She wants to get out from under Guy and needs Pepper’s help, reminding her that it is after all fashion week.
Katy calls Guy’s old apprentices and offers them the opportunity to finally receive the recognition they deserve.
Xandra offers Josie a spot in her band
Xandra stops by Chubby’s, as Josie cleans up her Xandra and the Kitty Cats merchandise. She came by to thank Josie for helping get Alex into rehab and wants to repay her. Xandra offers Josie a position in her band. Josie’s entire life, she’s imagined the day she’d turn on the radio and hear one of her songs and of all the things that Xandra has taken from her, stealing her song hurt the most. Josie reminds Xandra that she has her own band and she intends to reach success with them. However, there is one thing that Xandra can help with. She tells Xandra to come to the Miss Subway coronation.
Ginger at Miss Subway
The city gathers for the Miss Subway coronation at Riverside Park. Katy, Pepper, Josie, Xandra, Bernardo, Buzz, Francois, Luis, and Luisa attend. Deveraux crowns Ginger as the next Miss Subway. Jorge’s parents moved to the Heights with nothing but two suitcases. They left everything else behind. Washington Heights is the last place where they can afford to live. Ginger asks that they all sign the petition to stop the developers. Ginger, Luisa, VeeVee Humble, and Deveraux proceed to dance and sing.
Luis tells Jorge about his uncle
Jorge arrives at the bodega with all 10,000 signatures. Luis is nearly left speechless. He commends Jorge on how brave he is. He tells Jorge that his uncle would’ve been proud to see Jorge up there. It was his idea to buy the building, but he had secrets that he kept from the rest of the family. Luis is ashamed as he kept those same secrets from Jorge. Jorge’s uncle died of aids. He was gay and he didn’t tell anyone, and by the time Luis found out what was wrong with his brother, it was too late. This is why he reacted the way he did when Jorge came out. He’s afraid of losing Jorge as he did his brother. Jorge assures him that everything is okay and that they’ll always protect each other. Jorge then invites his father to a fashion show.
Katy takes her chances
Katy hosts a fashion show at the Pepper Plant for all of Guy’s former apprentices. Pepper informs her that Guy’s downstairs. Katy meets Guy outside and tells him how she’s sponsoring a fashion show for the designers that Guy stole from and blacklisted from the industry. Katy assures Guy that his name won’t be mentioned. She knows that going up against him could mean she’ll never work again in fashion but it’s a risk she’s willing to take.
Josie and the Pussycats perform at the fashion show set up at the Pepper Plant by Katy. Gloria sits in the crowd with Francesca Arnault. Luis and Luisa attend as well. Jorge rips the runway as Ginger. As does Katy in one of her original designs.
Pepper tells Freesia she never wants to see her again
Ms. Freesia asks Pepper if she’s ready for their next con, but Pepper turns her down. For the longest time, she made Pepper feel like she had to be someone in order to make it in the world, but Pepper now realizes that isn’t true. She pays Ms. Freesia back for her initial investment in the Pepper Plant with the money she got from her father. Lastly, Pepper tells Ms. Freesia that she never wants to see her again.
Katy is accepted into Parsons
Gloria introduces Katy to Francesca, the dean of Parsons. Out on that runway, Francesca not only saw Katy’s talent, she saw a designer who lifts up other designers. So, she offers Katy a spot in this year’s incoming class at Parsons. Pepper, Jorge, and Josie congratulate Katy. While this is the best news she’s received all year, all she wants to do is share it with KO. Katy now realizes that she wants him back. Raj interjects and informs Katy that she’ll have to be quick because he’s moving to Philly after accepting the offer to train at Joe Frazier's gym.
Katy says goodbye to KO
Katy rushes to the Grand Central train station and finds KO in the lobby. She wonders why he didn’t tell her that he was leaving. KO explains that Katy was the first person he wanted to know. He came to Lacy’s to tell her, but she was with Guy. Katy assures KO that she’s not with Guy. She then informs KO that she got into Parsons. He congratulates her. Just as it seems she is about to tell him how she really feels, Katy tells KO to chase his dreams in Philly. He gives Katy a hug, and they part ways.
Errol buys Lacy's and reinstates Gloria
Mrs. Lacy holds a press conference to announce that Lacy’s is closing down at the end of the month. Katy, Francois, and Amanda are in attendance. Prince Errol arrives with Gloria and reveals that he’s the new owner of Lacy’s and that it’ll remain open. As of yesterday, he’s stepped down from the royal family. He’s financially independent, and he beat out Mr. Cabot’s offer. Effective immediately, Gloria is reinstated as head of personal shopping. Mrs. Lacy argues that Lacy’s is nothing without a Lacy. Errol agrees, which is why he contacted her son, Leo Lacy, who has agreed to replace Mrs. Lacy. She storms off in a fit of rage.
Hiram arrives at the bodega
Jorge, Luis, and Luisa celebrate at the bodega after learning that they have enough signatures to save the block. Hiram Lodge enters the bodega. He is the out of town buyer. He was so close to buying the block, but they stopped him. He was born in the Heights and he feels it’s time for him to come home.
Pepper and Josie discuss how she helped Alex get back into rehab and is newly single with no music career or any songs to call her own. Given that Pepper has helped Jorge and his family, as well as Katy with her fashion show, Josie asks Pepper to be her manager.
Pepper, Katy, Josie, and Jorge vow not to date for a year
Pepper, Katy, Josie, and Jorge walk down the street of New York as Katy explains how she couldn’t tell KO how she truly felt because she didn’t want him to give up her dream because of her. Josie proposes that they all vow to stay single for at least a year so that they can pursue their dreams.
Katy returns to Lacy’s the following day. Errol joins her on the elevator up. Katy enters Gloria’s office and meets Leo Lacy. She introduces herself. He reacts to learning her name. Katy then tells him that she thinks he might be her father.
