Toni invites Kevin to dinner

Toni approaches Kevin at school to ask that he come over for dinner tonight to discuss Baby Anthony's future, without lawyers. However, given that Toni and Fangs are Serpents, Kevin doesn't think they can provide a safe environment for their son and doesn't see how a meeting would be productive. However, when Toni reminds Kevin of his compulsive cruising and how he's addicted to putting himself in risky sexual situations that often end in violence, Kevin agrees to be at Toni's by 6:30.

Penelope has come to make amends with Cheryl

Cheryl receives an unexpected visit from her mother. Penelope explains that after Cheryl banished her from Thornhill, she traveled the world for sanctuary, and eventually found herself in the Himalayas, at the original convent of the Sisters of Quiet Mercy. The Sisters have decided that she can pledge herself fully to Christ, as they believe in redemption. They've given Penelope one weekend to handle any unfinished business before she takes her final vows. And Cheryl is her unfinished business. She has a surprise for Cheryl, but first she wishes to take a bath and eat. Cheryl is skeptical, considering that every time her mother comes back into her life, she gas lights her, but Cheryl ultimately relents.

RD-Caps-6x12-In-the-Fog-16-Jughead

Jughead asks Tabitha to time travel

With the diner empty, Jughead takes the opportunity to pry a little bit further into Tabitha's time traveling abilities. Unfortunately, her ability is limited; Tabitha can only travel alone, and only within spitting distance of Pop's. Jughead was hoping she could stop the bomb from going off at Archie's house, thus he never loses his hearing, but Tabitha claims that she's already tried and failed. The bomb is apparently a fixed point in time, and no matter what she does, it always explodes. Not to mention that interfering with time is too risky due to temporal paradoxes and ripple effects.

Meanwhile, at the town's borders, the fog is rolling into Riverdale and the lights above the town sign alarmingly power off.

Betty tells Archie she's late

Betty exits her front door to the sight of a dark figure standing just outside her home within the fog. So, she heads back inside and sneaks out the back door and over to Archie's, as he's on the phone with Tabitha, who agrees that they should postpone the meeting until the fog clears. When Archie asks why Betty came through the back door, she explains that there's a creeper standing outside her house. Archie offers to investigate, but Betty insists that she's fine. She and Archie then proceed to kiss before heading upstairs, where they have sex. Afterward, Betty reveals to Archie that her period is late. She unfortunately stopped taking her birth control pills when TBK had her in the well. Suddenly, the lights shut off and Archie goes looking for candles.

Lights out at Pop's

After calling Pop to check in on him, Tabitha begins to wonder what she's going to do when she loses him. However, this is merely a thought, which Jughead overhears and assures Tabitha that her grandfather will out live all of them. She accuses Jughead of reading her mind and reminds him that it's an invasion of privacy. Jughead apologizes, explaining that he didn't mean to. Unfortunately, Jughead's ability isn't their only concern at the moment, as the lights at the diner cut off.

Betty with TBK

Archie and Betty light dozens of candles and camp out in the living room, where he asks Betty how long she was in the well with TBK, to which Betty reveals that she was trapped for two weeks. Archie then asks how she got away. Betty explains that TBK usually went out every night after dark, but this day was different. She recalls how he approached her one night and explained that they were at a crossroads and how it was up to Betty to decide how their story ended. He sensed they were kindred spirits and pulled Betty up from the well. He gave her a choice to either dismember his latest victim's body or become his next victim. With the saw in hand and classical music playing in the background, Betty dismembered the body at TBK's behest. He then simply let her go, telling Betty that they were the same and that the world would be more interesting with her in it, as this act proved they were bonded forever. Betty has been different ever since, referring to herself as psychically dismembered. However, Archie assures Betty that she's not dismembered and that she did the right thing. Sometimes, he wonders why he's still in Riverdale after everything that's happened. But then he always remembers that the reason he wants to save the soul of Riverdale is because he wants to raise a family there. Essentially, he tells Betty that whatever the pregnancy test says and whatever she decides to do next, he will be at her side.

Veronica invites Reggie for a drink

Reggie stops by the Babylonium to clean out his locker and desk, but before he leaves, Veronica offers him a drink, which he initially turns down, but when she proposes a game of strip poker, he takes a seat. Unfortunately, the lights suddenly shut off, which is either a sign from God or the devil, they jest.

Jughead asks Tabitha if they have any tubes to siphon gas for the generator, but Tabitha reminds Jughead that their cars are on the other end of the parking lot and that he won't be able to see three feet in front of himself due to the fog. She fears that something may be out there, but Jughead insists he'll be fine and heads out, but not before informing Tabitha about the old ham radio he saw in the back.

RD-Caps-6x12-In-the-Fog-43-Veronica-Reggie

Veronica and Reggie hook up

Veronica and Reggie's game of strip poker ends with both of them in their underwear. Veronica then takes a seat in Reggie's lap and the couple proceed to kiss, though Reggie can't help but notice Hiram's portrait staring down at them and proposes heading up to one of the suits, where they have sex. Afterwards, Veronica begins to think that perhaps she was too hasty with breaking up with Reggie for stealing the slot machines. She admits to overreacting and proposes they start over. If they are to do so, Reggie tells Veronica that she has to get rid of the painting of her dad. Veronica initially claims it's just a painting, but when Reggie continues to push, she relents, though she's hesitant when Reggie says to take the painting down now, as he doesn't think she'll actually do it. In their entire relationship, he's always felt like second fiddle to Archie, and now he's dealing with Hiram looming over him, leading him to feel as though he's nothing more than a consolation prize. Veronica feels the same as Reggie, as she'd rather be running Wall Street with her father still alive, but it simply didn't pan out that way. She also reminds Reggie that she gave Archie an ultimatum; her or Riverdale, and he chose Riverdale, so the reality is that they're all someone's consolation prize. In Veronica's ideal world, Reggie wonders who is with Veronica in New York, but when she fails to say Reggie's name, he realizes that they're not meant to be together. They're simply recreating her parents' dynamic. Veronica is a lot like her dad, and Reggie is recreating his own parents' dynamic, as his mom chose her career over his dad every time. Sometimes, Veronica had wondered if the reason they were such a good match is that they're bad for each other. And so, they have to break the toxic cycle for both their sake and part ways.

RD-Caps-6x12-In-the-Fog-50-Moose

Moose is back

As Kevin prepares to leave for the dinner with Toni and Fangs, he recalls his prior cruising of the woods that she had previously mentioned. On his way out, he is joined in the teacher's lounge by Moose, who reveals that he's Riverdale High's new P.E. teacher. He asks if they can catch up. Kevin initially turns him down, as he has a dinner to get to, but the fog is too thick to travel, and so Kevin agrees to stay for a while.

RD-Caps-6x12-In-the-Fog-52-Fangs-Toni

Toni and Fangs discuss the Serpents

Before Kevin arrives, Toni and Fangs decide to get on the same page about the Serpents and how they're going to possibly evolve. Fangs simply wants Anthony to be raised the same way they were — old school Serpent style. He wants Anthony to be able to defend himself with the Serpents at his side. However, Toni reminds Fangs that all the Ghoulies were killed by cops and that if Baby Anthony were to become a gang member, he'd be in constant danger from cops. Fangs retorts that he's going to face similar harassment as a political activist. Since they're clearly not going to see eye to eye on the topic, Toni decides to simply not focus on the Serpents and instead appeal to Kevin as a compassionate human being and explain that they want to avoid an expensive, drawn out legal battle. Fangs is in agreement. And just as they're finally on the same page, the lights go out.

RD-Caps-6x12-In-the-Fog-57-Moose-Kevin

Kevin and Moose kiss

Kevin and Moose catch up. Kevin explains that he's a teacher at the school and a part-time deputy, claiming that Broadway was simply a pipe dream. Moose then asks about Fangs, who Kevin never got back with and is in the middle of a custody battle with. As for Moose, there isn't much to share. He got laid off from the trucking company when the Lonely Highway shut down, and has been living with his dad, who recently got out of prison and is getting re-acclimated. Moose regrets bailing on Kevin the night his dad dressed up as the Gargoyle King when they were having sex. He then kisses Kevin, who only pulls away to text Toni and Fangs that he won't be making the dinner.

RD-Caps-6x12-In-the-Fog-60-Toni-Fangs

Toni calms Fangs down

Fangs is outraged after getting Kevin's text that he won't be joining them for dinner and is bailing on them, but he shouldn't be surprised, as it's what Kevin does best. He bailed on their marriage and now he's bailing on them as a family while suing for custody, forcing Fangs to question why they're even trying to make nice with him. Toni reminds Fangs that it's for Anthony's sake, but he's too upset and grabs his jacket, intent on handling this his way. Toni reasons with him that beating up Kevin won't fix their problems. She assures Fangs that they'll settle this soon, and if Kevin isn't willing to work things out, she's willing to play dirty. But for the time being, she needs Fangs with her and not arrested again, reminding Fangs that Baby Anthony also needs his father.

RD-Caps-6x12-In-the-Fog-61-Tabitha

Tabitha turns on the old ham radio

Tabitha turns on the old ham radio and tries to make contact with anyone who can hear her. She hears a low-pitched voice break through the static over the radio saying "get out of that house" and that there's a "bomb under the bed." Suspecting that Jughead is in trouble, she grabs the shotgun from under the counter, and just as she's about to head out, Jughead enters with the gas to fuel the generator.

After having sex with Moose in the teacher's lounge, Kevin heads to the bathroom, where he is attacked by the Gargoyle King. He then awakens on the couch across from Moose, realizing that it was nothing more than a bad dream. Seeing that Kevin is visibly upset, Moose joins him on the couch and comforts Kevin.

RD-Caps-6x12-In-the-Fog-78-Penelope-Cheryl

Cheryl finds Penelope in the chapel

Cheryl goes searching for her mother after she fails to show up at the diner table. Cheryl finds her in the chapel, staring at Abigail. She accuses her of either working for Percival or Abigail herself to steal the doll. Penelope claims she's merely reacquainting herself with Thornhill. However, Cheryl isn't convinced and hits Penelope across the head with a candleholder.

Jughead and Tabitha fill the generator with gas and bring life back to Pop's.

RD-Caps-6x12-In-the-Fog-85-Penelope

Penelope has Heather's letters

Penelope awakens restrained at the dinner table across from Cheryl, who explains that she is a pyrokinetic and that she's making Penelope's body temperature rise. Cheryl accuses her mother of trying to manipulate her as she always has, though Penelope insists this isn't the case. She simply came to make amends and informs Cheryl that her surprise from earlier were letters from Heather, Cheryl's best friend from junior high school, who Penelope forbade Cheryl from ever seeing again after she caught them in bed together. Penelope reveals that Heather wrote Cheryl after she moved, but she intercepted the letters, which are now Penelope's peace offering to Cheryl as proof that she has changed.

Tabitha gets back on the radio to broadcast her location to anyone who may be stranded in the fog. She tells them to look for the Pop's sign, as they're open and they have heat, food, and running water.

RD-Caps-6x12-In-the-Fog-88-Cheryl

Cheryl cries

Cheryl weeps hysterically while reading Heather's letters. She questions why her mother was so cruel to her for so many years. Penelope admits that she recognized in Cheryl something that she had tried so very hard to kill within herself, as she felt like a monster. She then gets down on her knees at Cheryl's bedside and pleads for her forgiveness. Tomorrow, when the fog lifts, she'll be gone, but she is hoping that Cheryl can forgive her for her sins.

RD-Caps-6x12-In-the-Fog-92-Kevin

Kevin calls Fangs

The next day, the fog has completely dissipated, though it has bestowed some clarity within Kevin, who calls Fangs to reveal that he's willing to discuss joint custody outside of the courts, now realizing that there's safety within numbers. However, Fangs had an epiphany of his own. He doesn't want to be half a dad, and he wants his son to be raised with an integrity that he's not sure Kevin possesses. Fangs tells Kevin that he'll see him in court and to watch his back until then.

Veronica stares up at her father's painting for a brief moment before requesting that her assistant Jay bring her some butcher paper, string, and masking tape.

RD-Caps-6x12-In-the-Fog-99-Tabitha-Jughead

Tabitha tells Jughead that he's going to die

Tabitha and Jughead are tuned in on the TV as Alice reveals that Percival is Riverdale's new mayor. While they were waiting for the fog to lift the previous night, the Council, minus Tabitha, met, dissolved itself, and appointed Percival mayor, collecting enough signatures to ratify the Council's endorsement. Jughead suspects that becoming mayor is just a stepping stone to his ultimate plan. When Jughead begins to wonder how they're ever going to stop Percival, Tabitha comes clean and reveals that she lied when she told Jughead she couldn't stop the bomb from going off under Archie's bed. She did stop it, and Jughead didn't lose his hearing, though he also didn't develop his ability to read minds. And because of that, Percival won; nuclear winter in every scenario that she played out, 1,384 scenarios to be exact. All of their powers play a part in the final battle, but Jughead's is especially threatening to Percival's, as it's the closest to his, given that both their abilities deal with the mind. Additionally, Tabitha reveals that what Jughead overheard her thinking about being afraid to lose someone, it wasn't about Pop, it was about Jughead. In every scenario, he dies. They only beat Percival in two scenarios out of 1,384. Jughead's death is fixed. Tabitha has been wrestling with whether or not to tell him. Jughead embraces Tabitha and tells her not to give up hope.

Betty has taken a pregnancy test, and she and Archie wait in the kitchen for the results. When the alarm sounds, they check the test together.
