“ | The Meta Gala is fashion's biggest night. My mom and I used to park ourselves across the street and gawk at the gorgeous gowns. It was our Oscars, Super Bowl, Thanksgiving Day Parade all wrapped into one. Back then, I had no idea how much work went into each of those dresses. The boning, the underpinnings, the detailing. It took an an entire team of people to put it all together. My mom always told me that one day, I'd get to attend the Meta Gala as a designer. That I'd be the one walking the red carpet and showcasing my work. But for now, I was just happy to be this close | ” |

Pushing through everything, Katy takes a designing risk for the Meta Gala that she hopes pays off and top everything off, Katy hears back from Parsons. Pepper goes head to head with her foe by making a splash at the Meta Gala to help promote Josie and the Pussycats and The Pepper Plant, but all might end badly when her foe gets to Alex. Jorge decides to figure himself out, but he learns some surprising information about his parents. Meanwhile, KO asks for Katy’s help and KO finds himself sticking up for Katy, which could put her job in jeopardy.[3]
Plot[]
Guy and Gal discuss his gown design for Casey Wilson to wear at the upcoming Meta Gala. Gal disapproves of the train, and Katy suggests trimming a foot off, to which Guy agrees.
Katy returns home and shares with Pepper, Jorge, and Josie just how much she’s enjoying her apprenticeship under Guy. It’s been twelve days since Jorge and Bernardo broke up, and Jorge has yet to take off his FDNY sweatshirt. He asks Katy what helped her get over KO, however, Katy doesn’t think she’ll ever be over him. Katy then explains the reason she didn’t quit Lacy's as planned is because Gloria asked her to stay after learning of her new position. Katy receives a letter from Parsons. Unfortunately, her application was denied. Tears run down Katy’s face, but she insists that she’s fine.
The following day, at Lacy’s, Katy and Amanda help prepare for the Meta Gala. Amanda accuses Katy of shirking her responsibilities despite the fact that Mrs. Lacy left them both in charge. Katy gets a message from Guy, who is in need of her help with Casey Wilson’s dress. Before leaving Amanda, Katy gives her a book titled "What Would Gloria Grandbilt Do?".
Hannah continues to interfere with Pepper’s operation, canceling her meetings with potential investors. When Didi left the Pepper Plant, she took Pepper’s little black book with her. Hannah intends to make good on her promise to ruin Pepper’s life. She wants Pepper to feel as bad as she did when Pepper left her to rot in prison. Admittedly, Pepper is right about New York City needing more creatives, so Hannah is stealing her idea and re-branding it as the "Hannah House." An upscale workspace, social club, and hotel for rich creative types. This is a costly venture which is why she’s poaching all of Pepper’s investors.
Pepper asks Alex if he’s been contacted by Hannah, which he hasn’t. With that, she proposes that he invest in the Pepper Plant. She intends to accelerate the launch in order to beat Hannah. Josie is reluctant, but Pepper offers Josie and the Pussycats the spot as the Plant’s house band. Alex worries that not enough people know about the Pepper Plant, which she intends to change.
Mateo stops by the apartment to check on Jorge. He tells Jorge to come over because it’s killing their mom to see the family at odds, but Jorge still hasn’t forgiven their father. Mateo explains that their father only wants what’s best for him and that he’ll need time to process Jorge in drag as he only just found out a couple weeks ago. Jorge tells his brother not to make him feel as if he’s something that people have to get used to.
Casey tries on Guy’s dress, however, she isn’t impressed and asks if he can start over and make her a new dress. Katy suggest making alterations to the gown, but Gal assures Casey that Guy will come back with something new.
Guy struggles to come up with a new design for Casey’s Meta Gala gown. Rejection is the part of the job that Guy hates the most. Katy offers her assistance, which Guy appreciates, but he’d rather tend to the gown himself. Katy then gets a message from Amanda demanding her help.
While Alex wants to help Pepper, he’s skeptical. Josie agrees that she can be extra, but no one has more hustle than Pepper. Now that Alex is cut off from his dad, he needs to be more cautious of his spending. Should he invest, what money he has will be fully invested in the Pepper Plant. Alex insists that Pepper guarantees the Pussycats the position as house band.
Francois helps Jorge with his next musical production. Luisa prefers that Jorge start auditioning again, which he surmises is due to the fact that she doesn’t want him performing in drag. Luisa insists that she’s proud of Jorge. She saw his play 17 times, which he claims was only done so that she could critique his work. She reminds Jorge just how hard and messy life is. Jorge and Luis not talking to each other is taking a toll on Luisa, and she urges Jorge to fix it. Francois backs her up, reminding Jorge that they’re too many battles in the real world to best wasting time fighting with family.
Pepper and Josie bring Katy something to eat while at work. Josie reveals that Alex has agreed to invest in the plant only if Pepper guarantees that the Pussycats will be the house band, which she does. Josie hasn’t forgotten about the Palace hotel incident nor how Pepper went behind their backs and promised Xandra the "Kiss of the Spider Woman" role, making them hesitant to get in business with her. Pepper promises that Alex will get every bit of his money back. And with that said, Josie hands Pepper the check. Katy joins them and explains just how difficult work has been as they prepare for the Meta Gala. She takes her food and leaves. Pepper then fills Josie in on her plan to bring notoriety to both the Pussycats and Pepper Plant.
KO unexpectedly shows up at Lacy’s and asks if Katy can fit him for his suit for the Meta Gala. Amanda remarks that KO appears to be winning Katy’s breakup before Katy kicks her out. He asks if she’s heard back from Parsons yet, and Katy tells him that she didn’t get in. Guy interrupts after Katy failed to answer his calls. He threatens to find someone who can replace her if she has better things to do. KO comes to her defense and encourages Guy to be more careful with his words. When he persists, KO gets upset. Upon realizing that KO is Katy’s ex-boyfriend and suggesting that Katy is better without him, KO punches Guy in the face.
Katy calls Guy without answer. She hasn’t seen him since yesterday when KO punched him. Gal calls as well, but he ignores her calls. Katy suggests that he may have already been spiraling when he got into with KO. Gal informs Katy that while KO may have punched Guy, the worst thing a person can do is bruise Guy’s ego. His recent behavior is about his career and the Meta Gala. When he gets into a creative stump, he goes on an Irish pub crawl. Gal tasks Katy with stalling Casey until she find Guy.
Katy sits down with Casey, who questions Guy’s whereabouts. She accuses Katy of giving her the run around, and with the Gala just over 24 hours away, Casey starts to contemplate whether she should look elsewhere for a gown. Katy convinces her to stay. She knows that the Meta Gala is important to Casey and that what she wears should be an expression of herself, so Katy asks Casey about herself. Casey's at the happiest point in her life. She spent so much of her life acting like everything was perfect, and she didn’t want anyone to know if she was ever struggling. It was exhausting hiding those parts of herself that were broken, so one day, she stopped trying to pretend. Casey gives Guy 24 hours to present her with a new dress and tells Katy that she should never change who she is.
Josie returns to the apartment after rehearsal with the Pussycats, during which time they laid down their first new track. She notices Pepper and Jorge labeling and packaging bottles of water. It’s all part of her plan to expose the Pussycats and Pepper Plant to the world. She asks Josie if it would be alright if she called her mother for legal counseling. Katy calls every Irish pub in Manhattan but has no luck with finding Guy. The Meta Gala is tomorrow, and they don’t have a dress for Casey Wilson. She asks Josie, Pepper, and Jorge for advice. They suggest she make Casey’s dress, but Katy tried that before and it didn’t end well, referring to herself as nothing more than a Parsons reject. Katy then asks herself what Gloria would do in this situation and storms out.
Katy meets with the seamstresses in the workshop and plans their alterations of Guy’s dress. She wishes to expose the gown’s imperfection. Francois arrives and after Jorge called and told him that Katy might be in need of assistance. When all is said and done, Guy’s dress will appear totally new, and Francois wonders if Katy is sure this is what she wants.
Jorge has dinner with his parents. Luis and Luisa ask about Bernardo, who Jorge reveals broke up with him. Luis then apologizes for how he reacted to Jorge in drag. He’s trying to fix things between them, but all that he’s asking is that Jorge not walk home dressed as a woman for his own safety. However, Jorge doesn’t want to live by his father’s rules, but Luis says that he will if he continues to live under his roof. In that case, Jorge is prepared to move out, to which Luis replies "good luck out there." This triggers an emotional reaction from Jorge as that’s precisely what his father said to him when he kicked him out at 14. For Jorge, sometimes that wound feels as if it happened yesterday. It was extremely difficult for him to come out to them in the first place, only for them to kick him out. Eventually, Jorge crawled back home because he wanted his family back. And after all was said and done, Luis didn’t even bother to apologize. Mateo arrives and reveals that a suspect was just arrested for beating up a drag queen and his description matches that of Jorge’s attacker.
Katy and Francois presents Guy’s altered dress to Gal. Francois explains that it was Katy’s vision. Gal loves the design, but it only fixes one of their problems. Guy is still missing and he has to walk Casey down the carpet.
Mateo brings Jorge down to the police station to ID the attacker. Unfortunately, their suspect wasn’t involved in Jorge’s attack. Bernardo arrives and asks if they got the right guy, which they didn’t. Bernardo asks if they can go somewhere to talk.
Amanda is exhausted from a stressful week preparing for the Meta Gala. Katy agrees to do the rest of the work moving forward. She then gets a call from Jorge revealing that Guy was just brought into the precinct for day drinking. Before leaving, Amanda gives Katy a dress to wear for the Meta Gala.
Bernardo and Jorge grab drinks at Molly's Crisis. He reveals that he went to the park to surprise Bernardo and saw him with Buzz. Bernardo reveals that they hung out a few times, but that's all. Jorge says it’s fine, but Bernardo knows that he’s hurt and asks him to stop pretending. Jorge admits that he’s scared of being abandoned again. So, he tends to cling too tight or self-sabotage. Bernardo refuses to abandon Jorge and offers a fresh start. However, Jorge has a lot to work through and believes that it would be better if he does that on his own. Bernardo kisses Jorge on the cheek and leaves.
Katy finds Guy at the police precinct drunk and with a black eye. He refuses to go to the Meta Gala, especially after he didn’t make Casey’s dress. Katy reveals that she made alterations to his design. However, Guy insists that he doesn’t need her to save him nor does he need a lecture from his apprentice. "This apprentice saved your ass", Katy replies. She would do anything to have what he has. She’s dreamed since a young age of showing her work at the Meta Gala, but now, she’ll never make it there because she couldn’t even get into Parsons. She envies him and his position and can’t believe that he can so willingly throw it away.
Katy arrives at the Meta Gala. Casey is thrilled with her dress, much to Katy and Gal’s pleasure. Casey asks about Guy, who has still not shown up, wondering if he's upset with her for some reason.
Pepper sneaks into the Meta Gala and onto the carpet where she serves her very own Pepper Plant labeled products to those in the high-end fashion world. She runs into Hannah, who appears to have received an invite to the event. Hannah reveals that one of Pepper’s contacts sponsor the event and used her to snag an invite. Pepper proposes that they bury the hatchet or at the very least talk over drinks, to which Hannah agrees. Before parting way, Pepper tells Hannah that she looks as beautiful as the day they met.
Casey can stall no longer. Guy hasn’t arrive, and she must walk the carpet. Gal assures her that her brother would want this, with or without him. Katy is tasked with helping Casey with her train as she walks the carpet. Katy is certain they’ll love the dress and see the real Casey. Guy arrives just in time to walk Casey down the carpet. KO shows up in the tuxedo Katy fitted him for. He apologizes for punching Guy. Katy forgives KO and warns him against ever doing that again. He looks to Casey’s dress and can instantly tell that it’s Katy’s work. Xandra joins them, and she and KO walk down the carpet.
Pepper let's Josie, Cricket, and Trula in through an emergency exit. The Pussycats set up their equipment and perform their brand new song in front of the entire Meta Gala, interrupting Xandra’s own reveal of her band. She and KO leave as Katy and Pepper cheer Josie on.
Guy’s dress is a standout for the Mets Gala. He reveals to an interviewer that making Casey’s dress takes weeks of intense labor, which he couldn’t do without his sister, Gal or his team of seamstresses. Most importantly, he singles out Katy and refers to her as the unsung hero who will be a household name one day.
Pepper and Hannah meet up at Molly’s Crisis, where Hannah reveals that she raised $300,000 for the Hannah House. Considering that they’re still married, Pepper claims that half of that money belongs to her. However, Hannah’s lawyers have made sure that Pepper will never see a single cent. Although, Pepper’s lawyer and Josie’s mom, Sierra, dug up enough dirt on Hannah’s corrupt lawyers to ruin them, taking Hannah down with them. With that in mind, Pepper pressures Hannah into signing the divorce papers. For whoever it may be worth, Pepper tells Hannah that what they had was real. With no other option, Hannah signs the divorce papers. Pepper kisses Hannah goodbye before calling over Hannah’s mother. It was the only way to ensure that Hannah would leave her alone. Hannah’s mom remarks that she’s not supposed to be drinking with her medication and plans to take Hannah, who she calls by her real name Taylor, back to the country house.
Amanda compliments Katy on a job well done with Casey Wilson’s dress. Katy wonders why they’ve always been so competitive when they want different things. Amanda is destined to be the next Gloria while Katy has other aspirations. Katy wonders if they could ever be friends, and Amanda tells Katy not to get carried away. She asks Katy to join her at the after party, but Katy chooses to stay behind and clean up.
Hannah enters Chubby’s on her way out of town to warn Alex that Pepper isn’t who she says she is.
Luisa sits Jorge down and tells him that there isn’t a day that goes by that she doesn’t think about the year that they kicked him out. She blames herself for not protecting him. Whoever he loves and however he dresses, she loves Jorge unconditionally. Jorge wishes that his father felt the same way. Luisa insists that he does, he just has a different way of showing it. He loves Jorge so much that when they had to raise the rent of the other units, he couldn’t bear the thought of Jorge and his friends leaving so they have been covering Jorge’s share for the past couple of years. He wants to keep Jorge close, but business at the bodega is slow, and they can barely afford the mortgage. Jorge offers to pay back whatever they owe, but Luisa doesn’t want his money. They’ve made a lot of sacrifices so that Jorge and his friends can live their dreams. Jorge and Luisa then start rehearsing lines for the Hedwick auditions in the paper.
Josie, Cricket, and Trula celebrate after their performance at the Met Gala. The Pussycats are trending. Alex interrupts and reveals that Pepper has been lying to all of them.
Guy finds Katy cleaning up in the office and offers to help. He realized that Katy is the only person he wants to celebrate with. He apologizes for putting her in the position that he did. She tells Guy that the next time he breaks, she can’t be the one to pull him back. Guy reveals that much like Katy, he didn’t get into Parsons either. He questions what it’ll take for her to stop doubting herself. She’s smart, passionate and fearless. She has a way of looking at a person and bringing out the best of them. Guy is certain that she has an amazing career ahead of her, and he only hopes he'll be there to see it. He and Katy proceed to have sex in Gloria’s old office.
