First Day of School[]
Ms. Wardwell enters the class. Carl and Billy question her return. Wardwell explains that she’s merely returning as a teacher, no longer the school's principal. She shares with the class how she’s found herself drawn to Dante’s Inferno, detailing the poet’s epic journey to Hell.[1]
Carl and Billy cheer on the cheerleading squad
At Baxter High, Sabrina and Roz have joined the cheerleading squad: the Baxter High Ravenettes, led by Lizzie. Carl, Billy, and the Baxter High Ravens watch from the sidelines and cheer the girls on as they rehearse a routine. Afterward, Lizzie compliments Roz and Sabrina on their performances.[2]
Going to Phantasmagoria[]
As Carl, Billy, Rosalind, and Lizzie joke in the hallway, they are joined by Harvey. Billy reveals that he has a phobia of clowns, much to the group’s amusement. Lizzie offers Roz a ride in Billy’s car to the carnival, but she turns them down, explaining that she’s going with friends. Harvey questions why Roz said she was going with friends when they’re supposed to be more than that. Roz explains she said friends because it’s technically true.
Billy, Carl, Lizzie, and Roz watch Harvey fail miserably
Professor Carcosa challenges Harvey to the strongman game. Harvey accepts, relating it to a pickax in the mines. Harvey brings the hammer down but fails to ring the bell as Carl, Billy, and Lizzie watch on. Billy steps up and rings the bell with little ease. Harvey walks away embarrassed, which Professor Carcosa takes notice to.[3]
Cursed by a Pagan[]
Carl and Billy pick a fight with Robin at Cerberus Books. They take his cap, and he warns them to give it back. When they refuse, he starts to chant, but Theo intervenes, and out of respect for him, they return Robin’s hat. Theo and Robin then grab a booth.
The Baxter High Ravens capture Circe
Later, Harvey, Carl, Billy, Martin, and Eric trash the carnival with baseball bats until being confronted by Circe. Harvey refuses to leave until Circe reveals what they did to Roz. She claims that she’ll go freely, but as the Ravens grab her, she transforms each of them into squealing pigs. Theo and Robin arrive at the carnival to find that Circe has turned them into animals. Harvey has them sitting in the back of his truck. Theo offers to take them to his father’s farm.[4]
Sabrina abducts Circe, brings her to the Academy of Unseen Arts, and forces her to turn Carl, Billy, Martin, and Eric back into humans. As the boys are turned back into humans, Prudence compels them and leads them out of the Academy.[5]
