Ben to Betty and Jughead[src]

Ben Button was a recurring character on The CW's Riverdale. In addition, he appeared in Netflix's Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. He is portrayed by Moses Thiessen.

Ben worked at the Bijou, a movie theater in Riverdale. Before the demolition of the Twilight Drive-In, he also worked there as a concessionist. After he becomes addicted to playing Gryphons and Gargoyles, Ben takes his own life.

In 1955, Ben is part of Jughead Jones' "nerd club" and an avid reader of Pep Comics. He is Ethel Muggs' boyfriend.

Early Life[]

Ben maintained an illicit relationship with Geraldine Grundy at the same time that she was with Archie Andrews. On July 3, 2017, the day before the disappearance of Jason Blossom, he texted Grundy asking if he could see her on the following day. Grundy however put him off, as she had already made plans with Archie and did not want either teen to discover her duplicity. On the same day, Jughead Jones cleared trash from the field at the Twilight Drive-In, a job that Ben was supposed to do when he came in that day but that Jughead did anyway.[1]

Ben pays a short visit to Chic at the Cooper residence for unspecified reasons. He crosses paths with Betty while on his way out. According to what Chic told Betty when questioned about his job interview, Ben works concessions at the Bijou and Chic was "pretty sure" he got the job after their meeting.[4]

Dilton and Ben at Pop's

Ben and Dilton Doiley sit in a booth at Pop's playing a game. Jughead stops by to say hi and ask what they're playing, but before Dilton can respond, Ben tells him to shut up.

A few days later, Ben and Dilton are found unconscious in the woods by Jughead, stripped of their clothes, with markings etched into their backs. Also on site are candles and some kind of blue liquid. It would seem a ceremony of some kind was taking place. Ben wakes up, but he is unresponsive and foaming from the mouth. So, Jughead screams out for help.[5]

While in his coma, he is visited by Ethel, Betty and Jughead. When Ben finally awakens, he climbs out the window of his room. Betty and Jughead enter as he sits on the window seal. Ben says that he's going to be with Dilton now. They both flipped the coin but Dilton was scared to ascend. Ben isn't however. What about Princess Etheline, Betty asks. Ben replies that they'll all be reunited in the kingdom and that it's all part of his plan. Ben then jumps out the window onto the street below, killing himself.[6]

Dilton and Ben congratulate Jughead on Pep Comics publishing an issue entirely written by him, Homeroom of Horrors. The two boys offer to buy him dinner at Pop's. Usually Jughead would have accepted, but he has an appointment with writer Brad Rayberry he can't miss.[10]

Physical Appearance[]

Ben was a young man with blond hair, brown eyes, a lean, athletic build and a light complexion. Little is known of his style in clothing due to him appearing in his work clothes more often than not.

Personality[]

Ben appeared to mostly to keep to himself, especially after the murder of Geraldine Grundy, his music teacher. Even his mother described him as being odd. However, after befriending Dilton Doiley during the summer, Ben became secretive and started acting out of character. In 1955, Ben is the more easygoing of the "nerd club" made up of Jughead, Ethel, and Dilton as he moves more seamlessly between different groups.
