I am Asmodeus, Lord of Vermin.
— Chapter Twelve: The Epiphany

Asmodeus is a recurring character on Netflix's Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Asmodeus is a demon and one-third of the Plague Kings. They attempted to kill Sabrina in an effort to prevent her from "ascending" in fear of the chaos she engenders. The Plague Kings failed to stop her ascension and were banished back to Hell, where they counseled the Prince of Hell, Caliban, in hopes that he would take the throne. When Caliban is unable to defeat Sabrina in the Unholy Regalia, they are forced to bow down to her as she ascends to Queen of Hell.

The Plague Kings are summoned

The Plague Kings are summoned by Sabrina and Nick to the desecrated church and are sealed in a circle. They identify themselves. Sabrina demands to know who sent them to kill her. The Plague Kings claim they operate independently of Satan and the coven but that they wish death on the "half-breed" Sabrina because of the chaos she will bring. "The half-witch must not ascend." Nick questions the demons, but Father Blackwood banishes the three of them.[2]

Part 3

The Plague Kings denounce Lilith

In her father's absence, Sabrina Sabrina has come to declare Lilith the official Queen of Hell, but the Plague Kings object, claiming that Lilith is a concubine, not a queen. The realms are in chaos. The Earth, the Pit, the Heavens, and the Cosmos all reject Lilith's claim. The Plague Kings propose that Caliban, Prince of Hell take the throne. He’s been molded by the clay of the pit itself. Since the Dark Lord’s desertion, the Nine Circles of Hell have been breaking down, and Caliban seeks to restore stability, conquer the earth, remake it as their tenth circle and enslave the tribes of mortals and witch.

Later, Sabrina takes her seat at the throne, but the Plague Kings denounce her as queen as she lives on Earth and is a child. Nevertheless, Sabrina insists that she will rule with Lilith as her regent. As Caliban prepares to challenge Sabrina for the throne, Lilith reminds him that there are rules to be followed, such as him needing a certain number of signatures. Sabrina’s eyes turn white as she warns Caliban to back off. As queen, Sabrina dismisses the Infernal court.[3]

Reformation of Hell

The Plague Kings confront Sabrina after she failed to claim Robert Robertson’s soul. Lilith insists that Sabrina is still learning and that it was simply a momentary lapse of judgement. Caliban proposes that Sabrina answer why she relieved the mortal. Sabrina explains that he wasn’t worthy of damnation and decided to show him mercy, much to the Kings’ dismay. Lilith explains that Sabrina still has one more soul to claim. A man by the name of Jimmy Platt and insists that Sabrina will get it right.

Sabrina confronts the Plague Kings after returning with a soul

Sabrina returns to Hell with Jimmy and orders Lilith to burn Jimmy and ensure that he truly suffers for his crimes. The Plague Kings are still not convinced that Sabrina is suited to rule. Sabrina explains that she couldn’t care less about their blessings. She accepted her birthright to keep Hell where it belongs, away from the mortal realm. But that’s not enough. Her father's ways are broken, and Sabrina intends to reinvent Hell. Sabrina reminds that Plague Kings that she’s their sovereign and the reformation of Hell starts immediately.[4]

King Herod’s Crown

The Plague Kings demand an audience with Sabrina

Sabrina returns to Hell with Lilith, where the Plague Kings surround a table and demand an audience with her. Sabrina outlines her reformation, starting with a grand accounting of all the souls in Hell. Until then, she requests that all deal-makings with mortals come to an end. As for pre-existing contracts, Sabrina will decide which they collect on only after viewing each contract on a case-by-case basis. Caliban interrupts to challenge Sabrina for seat on the throne. He’s gathered 666 signatures of the highest born of Hell to endorse his challenge. By infernal law, it must be accepted. Caliban challenges Sabrina on a request for the "Unholy Regalia." They begin with having to find King Herod’s crown.

Asmodeus, Beelzebub, Purson, and the demons of Hell cheer Caliban on as he places King Herod’s crown on his head after winning the first challenge. Sabrina arrives and punches him in the face. He explains didn’t help her because it’s a competition.[5]

Pontius Pilate's Bowl

The Plague Kings alert Sabrina of the next challenge

The Plague Kings await Sabrina at the Academy of Unseen Arts as the second challenge nears. By Infernal Law, the Kings declare that the second quest begin. Sabrina and Caliban must seek and retrieve Pontius Pilate’s bowl. Lilith and Sabrina eventually return to Hell with the bowl of Pontius Pilate. When the Plague Kings ask about Caliban, Lilith tells them that Sabrina’s victory over Caliban was absolute, as Sabrina isn’t sure he survived. However, Caliban enters having survived the ordeal. He reminds Sabrina that he’s made of clay and that he waited under the dusts of the ages for 2,000 years after Sabrina cheated, stole Pilate’s bowl and left him for dead. With each having won a single challenge, it’s sudden death. The winner shall reign over Hell for all eternity.[6]

Judas Iscariot's 30 Pieces of Silver

The Plague Kings counsel Caliban

Lucifer returns to Hell take control of the throne. He orders his disciples to kneel before him. When Purson, of the Plague Kings, questions his authority, Lucifer snaps his neck. Caliban confronts Lucifer, introducing himself as Prince of Hell, though Lucifer doesn’t acknowledge his claim. Beelzebub interjects to inform Lucifer that they're in the middle of the quest for the three objects of the Unholy Regalia. Infernal protocol must be followed and the contest must be seen to the end. Whoever finds the third, Judas Iscariot's 30 pieces of silver, will sit upon the throne of Hell, and not even Lucifer can interfere with that. The two remaining Plague Kings, Beelzebub and Asmodeus, counsels Caliban as the final challenge nears.[7]

The demons of Hell kneel to Sabrina

The Plague Kings await the return of Sabrina and/or Caliban. Sabrina returns to Pandemonium with the silver to claim her throne as Queen of Hell. Sabrina says that she’s ready to be married to Hell. In her last act as regent, Lucifer orders Lilith to prepare Sabrina for her coronation. Sabrina Morningstar claims her rightful seat at the throne of Hell. Her disciples, including the Plague Kings, kneel as she approaches her throne. They then applaud as she reaches the top of the staircase, looking down on them.[8]

Part 4

Asmodeus and Beelzebub attends Caliban's wedding to Sabrina Morningstar, during which time, Sabrina Spellman arrives and marries the Uninvited.[9]

Asmodeus and Beelzebub approach Caliban as he sits upon the throne while Lucifer and Sabrina Morningstar are away touring the Nine Circles. Unfortunately, they remind Caliban that there is still much standing in the way of Caliban and the Royal seat, most importantly Lilith and her baby. Caliban refuses to allow Lilith’s bastard child to threaten his claim to the throne, so he and the Plague Kings perform a spell to kill Lilith and her baby. After learning that Lilith has fled to Greendale and given birth under the protection of the Order of Hecate, the Plague Kings head to the Academy of Unseen Arts, where they claim that they’ve come to pay tribute. However, the coven sees past their guise. Asmodeus and Beelzebub refuse to leave without the child, to which Zelda replies that will never happen. When the Plague Kings threaten to kill the coven and take the babe, Zelda invokes the power of Hecate, killing Asmodeus and greatly wounding Beelzebub, who just barely escapes with his life.[10]
