Burned at the stake[]

Abigail is burned alive
In 1890, during a time when Riverdale was a hateful and backwards town, Abigail ran an all-girl school from Thornhill. The townspeople were suspicious of Abigail, who had no husband and no intention of taking one. They also harassed Abigail and the girls in her care for months, as they knew of the palladium to be found in the mines under the maple groves. When she refused to sell, they decided to steal it instead. Armed with pitchforks and torches, they came as a mob in the black of night to Thornhill and dragged Abigail from her home. They accused her of being a witch and burned at the stake in the groves surrounding Thornhill. The primary conspirators in her death were Archibald Andrews, Jedediah Jones, and Beatrice Cooper. With her dying words, Abigail cursed them and the others, damning them to tragedy as well. After her death, the townspeople claimed the mines and began to dig for palladium, but there was a collapse, killing and entombing an entire generation of Riverdale's fathers and sons. Some say the collapse was caused by Abigail's curse.

Abigail curses the town
Generations later, Cheryl, one of Abigail's descendants, discovers the truth about her horrific fate and seeks public acknowledgement and penance from the descendants of those who wronged Abigail. However, when she fails, Nana Rose hands Cheryl the last words Abigail ever spoke as she was being burned alive, i.e. the alleged curse she placed on the town. Cheryl, Nana Rose, and Britta gather around a table as Cheryl announces that moving forward, Thornhill will be a school for lost and wayward girls. She then recites the curse. "Archibald Andrews, Jedediah Jones, and Beatrice Cooper. I repudiate you with my dying breath. And in Satan's name, I curse you. Burn me, but you will never escape my wrath, nor Satan's. The unchained elements of the power of darkness are lying in ambush. Beware. My revenge will strike down you and your accursed houses. And I will bathe in the blood of your sons and daughters. Immortal, I shall return, again and again, to torment and destroy you." Moments later, a gust of wind sends Thornhill's door flying open, much to Cheryl and Britta's shock.[1]

Possessing Britta and Cheryl[]

Abigail has possessed Cheryl
Abigail has possessed Britta and repeatedly blows out Cheryl's reversing candles to stop her from reversing the curse on the town. However, she is caught red-handed by Cheryl during her third attempt to blow out the candle. In fear of what she may do next, Cheryl seeks out Nana Rose's help to perform a banishment. They restrain Abigail to a chair and begin. As this unfolds, Abigail recalls her initial burning at the stake all those years ago and screams that "It burns!" The wind blows the windows open and Britta regains consciousness and control of her body. Meanwhile, in her hand, Nana Rose holds Cheryl's iconic spider broach, which she used to actually transfer Abigail into Cheryl's body. As Abigail blows out the reversing candles for the final time, Nana Rose apologizes for the temporary misplacement of her soul in Britta. But thanks to the incantation she was murmuring during the banishment, Abigail is now in full control of Cheryl.[2]

Abigail sees Toni
With Abigail in full control of Cheryl's body, Nana Rose intends to have her restore the Blossom family to their former glory. Riverdale once belonged to the Blossoms, and Rose wants to take it back, but first, Abigail would like to get a lay of the land, starting with the council meeting, where she recognizes Archie as a descendant of Archiebald Andrews, before laying eyes on Toni for the first time, who is the spitting image of her beloved Thomasina. Abigail looks to Britta to tell her everything she knows about Toni and insists that Britta take her to Riverdale High tomorrow to meet her. She wonders what led to Cheryl and Toni's breakup, but Britta isn't sure. Abigail is even more shocked to learn that they were openly together, as such relationships weren't permitted in her time.

Abigail asks Toni about Thomasina
Abigail goes up to Riverdale High with Britta, posing as Cheryl, and reveals to Toni that she would like to adopt her. Abigail invites Toni to Thornhill to walk her through the adoption process, but Toni has to bartend at the Wyrm, so Abigail agrees to pay her a visit instead, where she informs Toni about her great-great aunt, Thomasina, who was murdered by a warlock pirate, Fen Fogarty. Much to Abigail's surprise, Toni is in a relationship with Fangs, Fen's descendant. She is taken back and excuses herself, returning to Thornhill to inform Rose and Britta of her discovery. When Nan Rose calls Toni Serpent trash and expresses her relief, as she brought Abigail back to help the Blossoms reclaim glory, Abigail locks her in the family dungeon. Riverdale will be hers, as will revenge on the offspring of her enemies, but first, she must reclaim Thomasina. That night, while brushing her hair, Abigail sees Cheryl's soul in the mirror, banging on the glass from the other side. So, she smashes the glass with a candleholder.[3]

Abigail sleeps
Abigail returns from the town hall and informs Britta that it was Percival Pickens who wrote the article against the town of Riverdale. He may prove an ally to Abigail, but first, she must acquaint herself with the history of Riverdale and the role the Pickens family played in its shaping. Britta offers to fetch her a book on the town's history from the library and some tea she brewed. Unbeknownst to Abigail, she is drugged by Britta, who uses their connection to infiltrate her mind and warn Cheryl in her dreamscape.[4]
Banished by Archie and the gang[]

Abigail brings Betty a scone
The time has come for Abigail to finally enact her plan of vengeance and be reunited with her love, Thomasina. She will reincarnate Thomasina's soul into Toni's body on the night of a blood moon and kill Archie, Betty, Jughead, and Fangs, who she coincidentally receives a surprise visit from. They fear that Percival is recruiting people for a nefarious agenda, but Abigail, who is posing as Cheryl, remarks that she isn't concerned about Percival and is more worried about meeting the same end all over again. However, regarding Percival, Abigail will keep her own council as she always has and asks the three of them to leave, only to visit them at the school with arsenic-laced scones, which both Archie and Jughead eats, but Abigail retreats when Betty discovers her plan.

Abigail is banished
Needing Toni's blood for the reincarnation ritual, Abigail returns to the high school with a bouquet of flowers, claiming that she had a sixth sense that Toni was in need of help. Toni grabs the roses and pricks her hand on one of the thorns. Abigail wipes the blood away with a napkin she intends to use for later and learns from Toni that the Ghoulies are trying to kill Archie. So, she dresses up as a Ghoulie and fire-bombs him with a Molotov cocktail outside the community center. Unfortunately for Abigail, Archie not only survives, but they learn of her true plan and render her unconscious with chloroform and tie her to a post to be banished from Cheryl's body and placed in the Julian doll.[5]
Stopping the comet[]

Abigail and Thomasina have sex
Abigail is summoned by Cheryl and Heather, who asks for her help with stopping Bailey's Comet. In exchange, she'll free Abigail's spirit from the doll. A long time ago, when she was still alive, Abigail spent a sublime evening with her beloved Thomasina, who showed her Bailey's Comet for the first time through a microscope from Thornhill, where she explained that this comet, like all others, is made of ice. And so, Abigail instructs Cheryl to project her Phoenix fire as soon as the comet reaches earth. But if it is to work, it will require all of Cheryl's Phoenix power. As for Percival's binding spell, that will require greater effort. Therefore, in exchange, Abigail would like more than just her freedom. She wants one final evening with her beloved in carnal form. After Cheryl and Toni agree, Heather recites the soul transference spell, allowing Abigail to possess Cheryl's body and Thomasina to possess Toni's body. The spell is a success and reunited loves head into the bedroom, where they have sex. Afterward, Abigail reconvenes with Cheryl and directs her attention to the knotted rope sitting on the table. The knots represent the various mystical barriers surrounding the town. Once the rope is untied completely, they should be free to leave.[6]
Physical Appearance[]
At the time of her death, Abigail was a young woman with a slim figure, pale skin, brown eyes, and signature red Blossom hair.
Personality[]
Abigail Blossom is a fiercely independent and vengeful figure whose legacy is marked by tragedy, injustice, and an unrelenting pursuit of retribution. A woman ahead of her time, Abigail resists the oppressive norms of 1890s Riverdale, choosing to live without a husband and dedicating herself to the education of young women. Her defiance and ownership of valuable palladium mines make her a target for the town’s powerful families, leading to her brutal execution at the hands of Archibald Andrews, Jedediah Jones, and Beatrice Cooper. With her dying breath, Abigail curses them and their descendants, ensuring that their bloodlines would be plagued by misfortune.
Abigail’s wrath does not end with her death. Her spirit lingers, influencing events generations later when her descendant Cheryl Blossom learns the truth of her fate. Through supernatural means, Abigail possesses both Britta and later Cheryl herself, seeking to reclaim Thornhill, exact revenge on the offspring of her murderers, and reunite with her lost love, Thomasina. Upon regaining control of Cheryl’s body, Abigail is methodical and determined, gathering information about modern Riverdale while preparing for her ultimate act of vengeance. Her obsession with restoring the Blossom family’s former glory aligns her with Nana Rose, though she quickly turns against her when their visions diverge.
Abigail is deeply romantic, holding onto her love for Thomasina for over a century. This longing fuels her desire to reincarnate Thomasina into Toni Topaz’s body, demonstrating both the depth of her devotion and the lengths she is willing to go to reclaim what was taken from her. However, her vengeful nature blinds her to the consequences of her actions, leading her to attempt the murder of Archie, Betty, Jughead, and Fangs. Her cunning is evident in her ability to deceive and manipulate, whether through posing as Cheryl, poisoning her enemies, or disguising herself to carry out attacks. Yet, her overconfidence ultimately leads to her downfall, as her enemies recognize her plan and banish her spirit into the Julian doll.
Even in captivity, Abigail’s power remains formidable. When Cheryl and Heather seek her assistance in stopping Bailey’s Comet, she agrees only in exchange for one final night with Thomasina. This last moment of love and passion underscores her enduring romanticism, contrasting with her otherwise relentless thirst for vengeance.
Abigail Blossom is a woman defined by love and fury, a tragic figure whose suffering transforms her into both a victim and an avenger. While her actions are driven by pain and betrayal, her inability to move beyond her curse ultimately leads to her undoing. Yet, in her final moments, her true desire is revealed—not just revenge, but to reclaim the love she lost, making her one of Riverdale’s most haunting and complex figures.
